Teri Hatcher To Play Lois’ Mom In The Final Season Of Smallville

Desperate Housewives star Teri Hatcher, who rose to fame in the 1990s on Lois & Clark: The New Adventures of Superman, will play Lois Lane’s mother in the final season of Smallville, Michael Ausiello reports.

Sure, Ella is dead on the series. But Ausiello says that in Episode 8, titled “Abandoned,” Lois (Erica Durance) will discover old videotapes of her mother (followed, presumably, by the sad realization that she hasn’t owned a VCR in almost a decade).

The casting of Hatcher, who starred as Clark’s true love for four seasons on the hit Lois & Clark, continues the Smallville tradition of turning to actors with connections to the Superman franchise: Annette O’Toole, who played Lana Lang in Superman III, has portrayed Martha Kent for the past nine seasons; Christopher Reeve appeared as Dr. Virgil Swann in two episodes; Terence Stamp, who played General Zod in Superman I and Superman II, provided the voice of Jor-El; Margot Kidder, who portrayed Lois Lane in the Superman movies, appeared as Dr. Bridgette Crosby; and Marc McClure, aka Jimmy Olsen, portrayed the Kryptonian scientist Dax-Ur. In addition, Supergirl‘s Helen Slater played Kal-El’s biological mother Lara-El in Season 7.

The 10th and final season of Smallville debuts Friday at 8 p.m. EST/PST on The CW.
