The newest trailer for Tenet shed some light on Christopher Nolan's latest directorial outing. Instead of time travel, the film will center around the concept of "inversion"-objects, and even people, moving backward in time. Yet there are still no concrete details about the film's story itself.

An official synopsis for the film raises even more questions. John David Washington's character is referred to as the "Protagonist" and is said to be "fighting for the survival of the entire world." The concept of inversion is stressed once more, hinting at its overall importance to the film.

Per the official synopsis for Tenet,

John David Washington is the new Protagonist in Christopher Nolan’s original sci-fi action spectacle “Tenet.”

Armed with only one word—Tenet—and fighting for the survival of the entire world, the Protagonist journeys through a twilight world of international espionage on a mission that will unfold in something beyond real time.

Not time travel. Inversion.

At this time, Tenet still plans to keep its release date of July 17, despite many other summer flicks having pushed their release dates back due to the Coronavirus (COVID-19) situation. That said, Warner Bros. Pictures reportedly plans to shift the release date to Aug. 14 if not enough theaters are open come July, which would push the premiere of Wonder Woman 1984 from August to December.

Directed by Christopher Nolan, Tenet stars John David Washington, Robert Pattinson, Elizabeth Debicki, Dimple Kapadia, Aaron Taylor-Johnson, Clemence Poesy, Michael Caine and Kenneth Branagh. The film arrives in theaters July 17.
