With movie theater chains beginning to reopen across the country, one of the most eagerly anticipated films as cinemas resume operations is award-winning filmmaker Christopher Nolan's latest science fiction blockbuster Tenet.

A behind-the-scenes featurette explores Nolan and cinematographer Hoyte van Hoytema's use of IMAX cameras to film significant portions of the movie, playing with the camera's capabilities for the mind-bending visual effects in the action sequences while experimenting with camera placement during principal photography.

Nolan had first used IMAX cameras to film action sequences for 2008's The Dark Knight, increasing his usage of the specialized cameras in his subsequent movies. The hardware capabilities offered by the IMAX cameras and their signature large frame sizes include a bigger picture at a higher visual resolution and clearer, more immersive sound.

Tenet opened in 41 overseas markets this past weekend, earning over $50 million at the combined international box office, despite continued concerns about the COVID-19 pandemic and theater chains' heightened safety precautions, including audience sizes. This outperformed initial analyst estimates that placed its opening weekend earnings at $40 million.
