The first television commercial promoting Brian Michael Bendis' incoming run on Superman and Action Comics has arrived. The 30-second spot features animated artwork by Kevin Maguire, Jason Fabok, Evan 'Doc' Shaner and others, from the writer's just-concluded first story starring DC Comics' iconic character.

The commercial encourages fans of the Man of Steel to head to their local comics store for Superman #1 and Action Comics #1001 with a montage spotlighting three of the major aspects of the hero: Power, Action and Hope.

"It's a new era for the Man of Steel!" declares the commercial's accompanying text. "Comic book superstar Brian Michael Bendis is taking the reins of Superman's two ongoing series. Look for his Metropolis debut this July in both Superman #1 and Action Comics #1001."

Though it's not common for publishers to air commercials promoting comic books, Bendis noted last week that it's exactly the sort of outreach store owners have been asking for. DC has promoted a number of releases in recent years, from a commercial supporting the release of Neil Gaiman and J.H. Williams III's Sandman Overture miniseries, to spots in support of Doomsday Clock, Dark Knight: The Master Race, and the Rebirth and New Age of Heroes initiatives.

Bendis, along with a roster of A-list artists, just concluded his first extended Superman storyline in the six-issue The Man of Steel series. Superman #1, with art by Ivan Reis, Joe Prado and Alex Sinclair, arrives Wednesday, July 11; Action Comics #1001, illustrated by Patrick Gleason, hits stores Wednesday, July 25.
