Since 1994, the Tekken franchise has proven with the family lineage of Kunimitsu and the title of King in Lucha Libre that legacy is one of the series' major themes. No legacy plays a more important role than the Mishima bloodline. Since the first game, the Minishima name has been tied to power and corruption. However, it was when the youngest of the bloodline, Jin Kazama, appeared that the world was turned upside down. Introduced in Tekken 3, Jin was trained by his grandfather, Heihachi, in the family's personal style of karate. However, following his grandfather's betrayal, Jin unlearned his family's fighting style and vowed to make his grandfather pay.

Jin was also a Devil Gene carrier, which turned him into a demonic version of himself with immense power. Blaming his father, Kazuya, for the disease he couldn't control, Jin made him a part of his quest to destroy the Mishima bloodline. However, the events of Tekken 6 showed that Jin would go to any lengths to cure himself of the disease, even if it meant thousands had to die in the process. This is a crime that he still has yet to answer for.

Once Jin took control of the Mishima Zaibatsu at the end of Tekken 5, he used his family's army to start a world war. The conflict took thousands of lives. But rather than tackle the issues head-on, Jin chose to start yet another King of Iron Fist Tournament. The tournament was initially used to identify the world's best fighters so they could work closely with the Zaibatsu, but Jin had much darker motives for this particular tournament.

Jin's tournament was meant to be the focal point for all of the world's negative energy, which would allow the demon Azazel to come to life. The creature's appearance, which was also tied to Jin's Devil Gene blood, meant that if Jin could defeat him, he would be free of his curse. Furthermore, if Azazel fell, it was supposed to be mean the end of the world's corrupt governments and potentially bring about true peace. While these are fine goals, even after the creature was defeated, Jin was not free of his curse. Following a battle with his grandfather, Jin went into hiding.

While Jin has noble intentions, his decision to sacrifice the lives of so many people by starting a war is inexcusable. In Tekken 7, Jin is seen in hiding and dealing with his curse alone. However, while his father and grandfather had their final battle, Jin decided to remain with his extended family, Lee Chaolan and Lars Alexandersson -- none of whom commented on him starting a world war or the consequences he should face for his actions.

Right now, it seems Jin's strength and potential to good outweigh the decisions of his past in the minds of those who could do anything to bring him to justice. While he may never formally face judgment for his crimes, it is possible that Jin's penance could come poetically. This could come from a fateful battle with his father or perhaps his own self-imposed exile. Jin has always been unlucky when it comes to living a peaceful life, and while he hasn't answered for his crimes yet, his comeuppance could be right around the corner.
