The Tekken series is well known for the Mishima family, as well as curious oddities such as fighting bears and kangaroos. These characters aren't the only oddballs in the Bandai Namco franchise, with several other fighters having their own supernatural abilities. Such is the case with Bryan Fury, a sadistic villain who's been a recurring part of the series since Tekken 3.

Outfitted with cybernetic enhancements, a relentless fighting style and virtual immortality, Bryan Fury is a truly sadistic and formidable Tekken character. Much more than a mere street brawler, he proves how even the side characters in the series pack a punch. He's a rare case of a Tekken character who is as much body horror as they are brutal beatdown, with some truly weird things going on with his body.

Bryan Fury Is a Reanimated Dead Man

Before treading down a much darker path in Tekken 3 for the original PlayStation, Bryan Fury was originally a police officer. Killed in the line of duty, his body was taken to the mad scientist Dr. Abel. Envious of the mechanical acumen of his rival Doctor Bosconovitch, Abel sought to gain his enemy's knowledge of robotics to build his own private cyborg army.

To do so, he sent the reanimated Bryan to do his dirty work. He did so with the cybernetic knowledge that he did have, using it to bring the corpse of Bryan Fury back to life. These physical upgrades not only augmented Bryan's strength but also gave him other incredible faculties, including eyes that can detect invisible objects and utilize night vision.

Bryan Fury's Body Generates Perpetual Energy

Unfortunately, Abel's work wasn't permanent, and the upgrades that reanimated Bryan's corpse began to fail. This led Yoshimitsu to take him to Dr. Bosconovitch, who planned to place his mind into a new body. When this idea failed, he equipped Bryan's body with a perpetual energy generator. This negated the cellular breakdown that his body was undergoing, allowing him to essentially become truly immortal. It also meant that his body had no more need for outside energy sources, allowing Bryan to keep fighting for as long as he needed.

Bryan Fury Went Gray WAY Early

Something interesting about Bryan's appearance is his gray hair. Despite what these ivory tresses might suggest, Bryan was only in his 30s when he initially died. This means his hair took on an elderly hue much earlier than most men or that the silver locks are his natural hair color. It wouldn't be out of the ordinary for the world of Tekken, which has somewhat anime-esque designs and the occasional unnatural hair colors. Either way, it certainly gives Bryan a characteristic look.

Bryan Fury Practices a Violent Fighting Style

Bryan Fury practices a deadly form of kickboxing, though it's not quite the traditional Muay Thai that it appears to be. Heavily featuring hard-hitting punches and breathtaking knee strikes and kicks, Fury's style is unrelenting and designed to quickly pummel and punish his opponents. This combination of kickboxing and karate is infused with Bryan's own violent temperament, making his moves even deadlier. Examples include the Fisherman's Slam, wherein he punches an opponent's midsection before violently throwing them on the ground.

Bryan's Existence Seems to Be Fueled by Hate

Much of Bryan's drive and perhaps ability to survive his reanimated body's initial breakdown likely stem from his sadistic and utterly evil personality. Despite formerly being a cop, he is an incredibly vile and selfish individual whose only loyalty is to himself and his increasingly amorphous ambitions. This has seen him betray several who had formerly been allies, including both Yoshimitsu and Dr. Bosconovitch.

He takes great delight in unleashing pain upon others, but often all you'll hear from Fury is his trademark, sadistic laugh. It could be that the cybernetic revival had an adverse effect on his mentality, turning him more and more into a cold and uncaring, almost robotic fighter with an insatiable blood lust.
