Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Snags Sean Astin As Raphael

The Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles will never die. Not because they're muties; they're just awesome. It's right there in the title. Turtles mutated into teenage monstrosities with ninja training from an oversized, talking rat. Seriously, what's not to get on board with here? Nickelodeon knows it, and that's why a new animated series based on the multimedia franchise is coming next year. Several big names are already confirmed to be lending their voices, and now Sean Astin has been confirmed by Entertainment Weekly to be rounding out the mutant foursome.

Astin, who will voice the twin sai-wielding, red bandanna-wearing Raphael, joins the previously cast Jason Biggs (Leonardo), Greg Cipes (Michelangelo) and Rob Paulsen (Donatello). The series debuts in 2012, but we'll be getting our first look next month when the series makes an appearance at Comic-Con International.

Astin told EW that the traditionally gruff ninja turtle is "still working through issues" in the new series and that his "arrogance can get him into a little bit of trouble." He also talks about how he's been looking to Paulsen, who originally voiced Raphael, for guidance during recording sessions.
