WARNING: The following contains spoilers for Mighty Morphin Power Rangers/Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles #4, from Ryan Parrott, Simone di Meo, Alessio Zono, Walter Baiamonte, Igor Monti and Ed Dukeshire, on sale now.

The penultimate issue of BOOM! Studios and IDW Publishing's five-part crossover limited series Mighty Morphin Power Rangers/Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles has taken a drastic turn with the Turtles becoming the Turtle Rangers, and the Rangers becoming the Ninja Rangers—or Power Ninjas if you're so inclined.

But in the process, two of the Ninja Turtles' most famous villains just became much bigger threats, literally, and it could spell doom for New York, Angel Grove and the entire universe if they're not stopped.

Shredder was able to take Tommy's coin and morph into an evil version of the Green Ranger in this series, but everything he plotted in his alliance with Rita Repulsa has gone to hell. Tommy escaped with Tyler, the Foot member he came for all along, while Casey Jones and the Ninja Rangers were able to evade the Foot/Putties, a hybrid army Shredder, Rita and Finster thought would do the trick. To make matters worse, the Turtle Rangers were able to seamlessly tap into the Power Grid and take down the pyro-kitty titan Rita sent to raze New York, Wyldfyre.

Green Shredder's pissed off and he makes it clear to Rita at her Moon Base that failure is not an option. Her giant cat was supposed to deliver him the other coins from the Rangers, but he's just watching his mortal enemies level up and embarrass him time and time again. Shredder simply hates what he's seeing, and while turmoil ensues briefly as he and Rita debate steps forward, he does agree a more direct approach is needed. Rita will surely try to stab him in the back later on, but for now, she agrees as she still needs him to attain victory and slay her own enemies.

This leads to the Technodrome arriving in Central Park, and as per the Saturday morning monster-of-the-week schtick from the classic series, Rita sends a couple of giant monsters out to attack the heroes, but this time, she's upgraded Bebop and Rocksteady. They're tall as skyscrapers and wreaking havoc, having finally become the larger-than-life version of themselves that Shredder and Baxter Stockman always promised they would. But there's no mutagen or experiments involved; it's Rita's sinister staff that does the trick, and boy, they're excited as heck to start their rampage.

However, the Turtle Rangers have a franchise trope of their own to tap into, because as the human Rangers are still locked out of their Morphers following Shredder messing with their DNA, the TMNT posse is allowed to use their coins to access the Zords themselves. They combine powers, link up Zords and before you know it, the Megazord is there with a turtle twist, locked and ready to do the job Jason, Tommy and company usually do.

As Splinter said to them all, they are Rangers on the inside and it doesn't matter if they have a coin. And so, the humans have found purpose, guiding the Turtles in their duties, although the cockpits are a little cramped with so many voices around. Still, Donatello's pretty excited as he's in Black, Leo's in Blue, Raph's in Red, Mikey's in Yellow and April's in Pink, and they're ready to show Rita and Shredder's coalition what "Cowabunga Morphin!" is all about.
