WARNING: The following contains major spoilers for Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles #120, available now from IDW.

With villains ranging from interdimensional horrors to ancient gods, the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles have faced some of the most unique villains in pop culture. In Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles #120 (by Kevin Eastman, Tom Waltz, Sophie Campbell, Jodi Nishijima, Ronda Pattison, Shawn Lee, and Bobby Curnow), one of their most elusive enemies, the one-eyed cat mutant Old Hob, appears to finally be facing justice at the hands of the very people he has wronged.

The residents of Mutant Town elect to take a stand when a political rally is attacked by Old Hob's army of Mutanimals. In this case, however, the cat mutant is not the one responsible for the attack. It turns out that his trusted lieutenant, Man Ray has turned Hob's empire against him. However, the residents of Mutant Town are not aware of this as a mob marches toward the headquarters of the Mutanimals. Raphael arrives at the headquarters ahead of the angry mob and the cat mutant attempts to explain what is happening.

Unfortunately, Hob and Raphael have an antagonistic history, and their conversation eventually comes to blows. When Hob gains the upper hand, he is bitten by Zanna, a weasel that he took as his adoptive daughter. The realization that Zanna was trying to protect Raphael from her adoptive father shames Hob, as Zanna was one of the few inhabitants of Mutant Town who really loved the cat mutant.

As the mutant mob catches up with Hob intending to dispense their own brand of justice, the cat mutant realizes for perhaps the first time that he really is alone in the world, and his recent attempts to atone for the misery he has brought to Mutant Town means nothing to all the people his actions have hurt.

Old Hob has been part of the IDW Turtles universe since the very first issue, and in that time he has become one of their most despicable enemies. There are many reasons for him to suffer, especially at the hands of the ones he has hurt, but he still may not be truly deserving of his fate.

Lately, Hob has been showing genuine remorse for his actions, and likely could have progressed into a better version of himself. Now that almost the entirety of Mutant Town has him cornered, any opportunity he would had may be lost forever. At this point it's more about payback than justice, and that might be scarier than anything Old Hob has ever had to face.
