So far, "Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles 2" has included a lot of references to the heroes' '80s cartoon series. Characters like Casey Jones, Baxter Stockman and Bebop have been cast, and we've even seen photos of what appear to be the Turtle Van and a Neutrino car. With "TMNT 2" seemingly drawing so much inspiration from the 1987 series, it makes this latest rumor a bit easier to believe.

Cinema Blend has learned from a source close to production that classic "TMNT" villain Krang will also make his live-action debut in the 2016 film.

The source states that the movie recently filmed a scene depicting Krang's arrival on Earth from Dimension X via a portal. While creatures of a similar nature to Krang, the Utrom, appeared in the original "Turtles" comics, Krang himself was created for the cartoon series. The show's initial plotline featured the brain-like warlord working to create a new body alongside Shredder; their partnership resulted in the massive, punk-sunglasses and red Speedo-wearing robot that became one of the series' most iconic characters.

"Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles 2" opens on June 3, 2016.
