Teenagers are not known for outwardly caring about other people, so it's not surprising that a team like the Teen Titans would constantly betray each other. They do their best. They have the best of intentions, most of the time. So, it's not like they mean to hurt each other as much as they do. Yet, terrible things still happen to them.

Making mistakes is part of growing up, and it's what makes reading Teen Titans books so enjoyable. Unfortunately, the Titans often hurt the very people they're trying to help. With superpowers involved, things often turn messy. The Teen Titans are a cornerstone of DC Comics, making teens everywhere feel seen on the page. It wouldn't really work if the teens on the page didn't make so many mistakes and feel the consequences of their actions.

In the latest iteration of the Teen Titans, Damian was in a predicament. Damian Wayne knew his father's methods weren't working. Villains were getting out as soon as they were put away. But he also didn't agree with his grandfather's method of killing people off. So, he decided on a middle ground. He'd lock away the villains himself.

That way he wouldn't kill anyone, but he'd make sure they couldn't harm anyone else either. Except, he built it on the basement of the Teen Titans' base, and he told none of the other members. They found out on their own when the prisoners broke out, putting everyone in danger.

9 Kid Flash Knew About The Prison And Didn't Tell Anyone Else

Teen Titans #28 by Adam Glass, Bernard Chang, and Marcelo Maiolo

Kid Flash Wallace West running.

The fourth iteration of Kid Flash found out about the prison Robin had under the Teen Titans' base and told no one about it. Instead of making a decision about what to do with the information, he kept on the fence about it.

He didn't entirely help Robin keep it a secret, but also didn't do anything to stop him, effectively enabling the situation to go on. It was less an intentional betrayal of trust, and more of a teen boy who didn't know where he stood enough to actually know if this was wrong or not.

8 Roundhouse Stole Djinn's Ring

Teen Titans #35 by Adam Glass, Bernard Chang, and Marcelo Maiolo

Roundhouse joins the Nw Titans in DC Comics

Roundhouse steals the ring that commands Djinn, and traps her inside of it. Roundhouse got his powers after a building collapsed on him and his sister. It killed her, but gave him superpowers. The person responsible for the explosion? Damian Wayne.

Only after joining the team did Roundhouse realize that Robin was its leader. So, Roundhouse made it his mission to expose Robin for the killer he is. When no one would listen, he went the revenge route instead, trapping Djinn in her ring forever to make Damian feel the same pain he felt.

7 Crush Was Mind-Controlled By Lobo

Teen Titans #36 by Adam Glass, Bernard Chang, and Marcelo Maiolo

Crush Being Controlled By Lobo in Teen Titans 36

Immediately after Roundhouse's betrayal, Lobo came knocking down the door to see his daughter, Crush, and use her to beat up the Teen Titans.

Lobo is one of the scariest people in his universe. Being his daughter, Crush is the biggest bruiser in the Teen Titans team. When Lobo came around, suddenly being able to control his daughter's body, the two of them together made short work of the teenage heroes. It didn't help that the team was already sort of falling apart, and that they really didn't want to hurt Crush.

6 Damian Wayne Killed Brother Blood

blood pours from Brother Blood's arms

Damian finally managed to break up the Teen Titans by going too far and killing a villain for good. After multiple times trying to do something different from what his dad and his grandfather do with their enemies, Damian ended up falling back into his old ways: murder.

When Damian found out Brother Blood was killing again, he decided to just kill Brother Blood and end it there. However, he once again didn't tell his team. He did it on his own, leaving them to chase after the killer. When they found out and confronted him about it, the team finally broke up.

5 Mirage Tricks Nightwing While Disguised As Starfire

Team Titans #2 by Marv Wolfman, Kevin Maguire, William Blyburg, and Adrienne Roy

Mirage punches Nightwing

Using her illusion powers, Mirage tricks Dick Grayson into sleeping with her. Mirage, believing herself to be from a far future, thinks she will eventually be in a relationship with Dick Grayson. Of course, at the present she finds herself in, he's still very much in a relationship with Starfire.

In order to throw a wrench into this famous relationship and get what she wants, Mirage makes herself look like Starfire and gets into bed with Nightwing. When the reveal happens, Dick is the one who is shamed about it, which only makes matters worse.

4 Raven Ruined Dick And Starfire's Wedding

The New Titans #100 by Marv Wolfman, Tom Grummett, Bill Jaaska, and Al Vey

Raven interrupts Dick Grayson and Starfire's wedding

A possessed Raven ruined the special day of two of her team members. Weddings are hard enough to plan without having to account for rogue team members getting possessed by a demon for the occasion.

Raven also elicited the help of an evil version of Dick Grayson called Deathwing to complete this act of betrayal. It gets even weirder when Raven tries to possess Starfire with a kiss. It was a weird event that left a lot of questions, but what is beyond question is how tattered the Titans were by the time Raven left.

3 Jericho Kidnapped A Number Of Titans To Possess Them All

The New Titans #83 by Marv Wolfman, Tom Grummett, Al Vey, and Adrienne Roy

Jericho in Teen Titans comics

Once again, a possessed Titan betrays the group in order to use them for their demonic plans. Jericho was on a "Titan Hunt" for a while. Former members of the Teen Titans were being kidnapped without much explanation.

By the end, a great number of Titans were locked to a machine that would suck out their souls and replace them with a legion of demonic souls. Truly an evil plan if there ever was one. The one who saved them, surprisingly, was Deathstroke, who killed his son by literally stabbing him in the back.

Before he turned against the Titans, he was mostly doing petty crimes and suffering a drug addiction. When Deathstroke appeared to blackmail him into attacking his former team, it was just another thing he had to struggle through rather than a big act of betrayal.

1 The Judas Contract Was The Titans' First Major Betrayal

Tales of the Teen Titans #42 by Marv Wolfman, George Pérez, Dick Giordano, and Adrienne Roy

Deathstroke and Terra from Teen Titans The Judas Contract

In the most thrilling Teen Titans comic yet, Terra betrays the team and reveals she was working for Deathstroke all along. This betrayal defined the Teen Titans, not only because it was so unexpected, but because it was pretty gross.

Deathstroke having an intimate relationship with a teenage girl definitely made him a villain in more ways than one. This first major betrayal would set the tone for what would come in the future, and though many storylines would try to replicate it, Terra's betrayal remains one of the Teen Titans' most iconic storylines that was famously adapted in the Teen Titans animated series.
