DC Kids has unveiled the synopsis for writer Mariko Tamaki's and artist Yoshi Yoshitani's young adult graphic novel, I Am Not Starfire

The story will follow seventeen-year-old Mandy Koriand'r, daughter of the famous hero Starfire. A "high school outcast, Mandy is constantly trying to get out from under the shadow of her bright, bubbly, scantily clad and famous mother." She dyes her orange hair black and spends her days hanging out with her best friend Lincoln, avoiding the Teen Titan superfans and struggling to hide her feelings for the popular and pretty Claire. To add to her anxieties, Mandy skips her S.A.T. exam. Instead, she plans to move to France to escape the family spotlight. However, things take a turn for the better when she is paired with Claire for a school project. Their friendship develops into something more and Mandy begins to develop more self-confidence. But when an enemy from her mother's past threatens Mandy's future, she must embrace her superhero roots while also solidifying her own identity.

Starfire currently appears on the HBO Max series Titans, portrayed by Anna Diop. The upcoming Season 3 will have more of a focus on the alien hero, and is giving her a comic book-accurate costume, replacing her more casual look from the last two seasons. The actor who plays her sister Blackfire was also promoted to series regular for the new season, meaning she will play a more central role in the story moving forward.

Written by Mariko Tamaki and illustrated by Yoshi Yoshitani, I Am Not Starfire will hit shelves on Aug. 10, 2021.
