WARNING: The following contains spoilers for Teen Titans #47 by Robbie Thompson, Javi Fernandez, Marcelo Maiolo and Rob Leigh, on sale now.

The DC Universe has always embraced legacy as a core tenant of superheroes, and Teen Titans #47 ends with many classic members of the team rejoining the Titans fully, which could be the perfect melding of the older heroes' experience helping guide the current team's potential. It also quietly helps set up the possible future of the entire DC Universe.

Teen Titans ends with the adult Titans teaming up with the current roster and taking them under their wings in a scenario that seems to set up Titans Academy, a feature of DC's upcoming Future State event.

Future State will bring readers into a potential future of the DC Universe, promising surprising changes to long-established favorites. This includes the Teen Titans, who in the future have established the Teen Titans Academy to serve as the training program for a new generation of heroes. Cover art for the storyline also suggests they'll do so from the Titans Tower -- but that they may yet face some major threats from the likes of Deathstroke -- with the teaser hinting that most of the current students have been killed by some unknown betrayal. Notably, one of the heroes shown among the Titans are Crush, the daughter of Lobo and a member of the current incarnation of the Teen Titans. She hadn't worked with those Titans, however, until now.

The conclusion of Teen Titans #47 pushes the characters into that direction. After having their team disbanded for their actions alongside Damian Wayne, the Titans have been doing their best to follow the last messages left for them from their former teammate. That last directions lead them directly to Nightwing, who reveals the letter Damian left for him suggested creating a new Titans team with the current roster and a number of classic members including Troia, Cyborg, Starfire, Beast Boy, and Raven. Taking the younger heroes under their wing, the classic Titans could easily become mentors to this new generation of crimefighters.

This might even be the unofficial start of the Titans Academy as a counterpoint to the Justice League-approved Young Justice, with the most recent Titans -- Crush, Roundhouse, Kid Flash, and Red Arrow -- becoming the first class to learn under the classic Titans. This looks to be very much like the post-Graduation Day Teen Titans series, which saw classic members like Cyborg, Starfire, and Beast Boy becoming mentors to survivors from Young Justice like Superboy, Wonder Girl, and Impulse. The Academy could even become a major advancement for the young heroes by the time of Future State. The origins of the Titans Academy might all stem from Damian Wayne's last hopeful decision before leaving his friends and allies behind, asking them to work together for a better future for everyone.

It would explain why Crush is shown alongside other prominent heroes like Nightwing, Starfire, and Raven -- suggesting in the intervening years, Crush has become a recognizable mainstay of the Teen Titans. But it also suggests that the efforts of the group might be doomed from the start, as no matter what happiness the young heroes find amidst the group they might still be fated to die at the hands of the Teen Titan's most persistent and deadly foe.
