More than just a “Junior Justice League”, the Teen Titans was a place where young heroes could come together without their mentors and be themselves, make friends, learn about their powers and ultimately grow into the heroes of tomorrow.

The roster of the Teen Titans has included every hero to assume the name Robin, both Kid Flashes, Wonder Girls, Speedys, Agualads and Superboys. Add famous singular heroes like Cyborg, Starfire, Beast Boy, and Raven and you have a line up to rival any super-team. But there have been some heroes in the long history of the Teen Titans that almost no one remembers.

10 Joker’s Daughter

Duela Dent as the Joker's Daughter in DC Comics

Is Duela Dent really the Joker’s Daughter? Or is she the daughter of the Riddler, Two-Face, or Catwoman? No one knows and you will never get a straight answer out of her. As much as a Titans “groupie” as an actual team member, Duela has fluttered in and out of the team since the beginning.

Dent's frenetic fighting style and clown inspired weaponry make her a dangerous opponent, as does her habit of changing sides in the middle of a battle. One thing is for certain…no self-respecting villain will claim this wacko as their child.

9 Offspring

Offspring, son of plastic man

Plastic Man has never been the most responsible, or careful of heroes, so it isn’t exactly a surprise that he didn’t know he had fathered a son. Surprisingly, his son shares his powers. Luke O’Brian can change his shape and mass but has limitations, unlike his seemingly infinitely stretchable father.

The most significant difference between the two is that Offspring can change color to mimic the object he is portraying. He joined the Titans during the “One Year Gap” but has stayed mostly outside the hero life.

8 The Atom

Ray Palmer has been a mainstay of the Justice League. After a universe changing event brought him back to life as a teenager with the ability to grow in size as well as shrink, Palmer felt out of place with his former heroic cohorts. So, the Atom built a Titans team of young heroes mixed with alien DNA and tried to lead them in the Teen Titan tradition.

But, Palmer was a teenager only in body. He was very much still the adult college professor in his mind. This dichotomy caused a great deal of friction within the team and, as soon as Palmer was returned to his proper age, he returned to his former life and the team dissolved.

7 Red Star

Russian Leonid Kovar and his archaeologist father went to the Yenesi River to investigate a crashed spaceship and the ship exploded. The energy bathed Leonid and gave him an incredible range of powers including strength, speed, flight and immunity and control of radiation. Being a good patriot, the youth initially called himself Starfire and offered his powers to the State.

Kovar changed his name to Red Star after meeting the beautiful alien Titans member. Red Star joined the American team briefly but soon left to start a family with Pantha and Baby Wildebeest and lost them both in a battle with the insane Superboy-Prime. Red Star remains a hero of the Soviet People.

6 The Protector

Jason Hart is a high school student and a star athlete. He learns that his cousin Ted is addicted to drugs and can’t or won’t stop despite the pleas of his family. Jason knows that Ted has always loved superheroes so he becomes one himself, taking the name of the Protector.

Jason begins taking on the drug dealers in his area which draws the attention of Nightwing. Impressed by the young hero, Nightwing teaches Jason hand to hand combat techniques to make him a more effective fighter. Nightwing also made him an honorary member of the Teen Titans. Jason died in the Sanctuary tragedy.

5 Kole

Kole Weathers’ scientist father was paranoid about the potential for a nuclear holocaust and began looking for ways for people to survive the nuclear fallout. One of his test subjects was his 16-year-old daughter Kole. He grafted crystal and promethium to her. This gave Kole the power to spin crystal structures, super strength, and the ability to fly.

Kole was almost immediately kidnapped by the mad Titaness Thia to create a crystal prison for her enemies. The Titans came to save her and, despite the warnings of precog Lilith of a “dark future”, Kole accompanied them back to Earth. Kole died in the Shadow Demon attack in the First Crisis.

4 Zachary Zatara

Few know that the “most popular teenage magician” is a superhero but fewer still know that Zachary Zatara is the cousin of Justice Leaguer Zatanna and the nephew of Golden Age hero John Zatara. Like the rest of his lineage, Zachary performs his magic spells by speaking an incantation backward but he cannot affect living things.

Zachary joined the Titans when the concept of magic began to change drastically in the DC Universe but his arrogance and lack of patience made him few friends there. One exception is Eddie Bloomberg (Kid Devil) who thanks Zachary for keeping the origin of his demonic form a secret. Zachary had to leave the team because one of his unidentified female teammates was driving him “crazy” and disrupting his powers but he has popped up to aid Titans in need occasionally, although he never seems very happy about it.

3 Static

Virgil Hawkins is a “Bang Babies”, metahumans created by a confluence of tear gas and a mutagen that was released onto the streets of Dakota. This gave Virgil various electromagnetic powers that turned him into a superconductor.

During the Final Crisis, Static was trapped in Darkseid’s fight club and after being liberated, he and the others were invited to rest at the Titan’s Tower. Wonder Girl offered all the young heroes a place on the team and Virgil said yes, mostly because of Aquagirl. He made himself an indispensable part of the team until he lost his powers right before the Flashpoint incident.

2 Cave Boy

Gnarrk, occasionally known as John Gnarrk and Cave Boy, is a genuine caveman. Gnarrk is a time-displaced neanderthal who is stranded in the present by a freak comet. He has been fully integrated into society thanks to the telepathic help to expand his understanding and teaching of the customs by Teen Titan Lilith.

Though his intelligence is limited, his neanderthal form gives him super-strength, agility, endurance, durability, and enhanced climbing ability. Gnarrk was part of the Titans in its earliest days and has returned infrequently over the years. Gnarrk was also killed in the Sanctuary tragedy.

1 Green Lantern

The last Guardian of the Universe Ganthet handed Kyle Rayner the last Green Lantern ring in the back of a bar. The ring creates hard light constructs of anything the wearer can imagine. And from the mind of graphic artist Kyle came the most elaborate constructs ever created.

After the death of his girlfriend, Kyle moved to New York and joined the Teen Titans to learn to be a better hero. He began dating Donna Troy but also constantly clashed with Arsenal, who considered Kyle a poor substitute for his “Uncle Hal.” Kyle was more than happy to leave the Titans when the Justice League called.
