The mid-credits scene of Teen Titans Go! to the Movies teased the return of the original animated Teen Titans, and Warner Bros. is determined to deliver next year -- in some form.

A teaser surfaced online earlier this week for Teen Titans Go! vs. Teen Titans, bringing together the characters from both animated incarnations. Although the 30-second clip might have easily been dismissed as a clever fan creation, i09.com has confirmed with Warner Bros. that it's legitimate. However, what exactly it's for isn't exactly clear.

The promo is included on the Blu-ray and DVD release of Teen Titans Go! to the Movies, arriving in stores on Tuesday. Perhaps then we'll get more information as to whether Teen Titans Go! vs. Teen Titans is intended as a direct-to-video movie, Cartoon Network special, a release destined for the DC Universe streaming service, or something else entirely.

The anime-inspired Teen Titans aired for five seasons, from 2003 to 2006, and inspired a spinoff/successor, the more slapstick Teen Titans Go!, which proved wildly successful yet never won over many fans of the original. However, those devotees were given reason for hope in July with the mid-credits scene of Teen Titans Go! to the Movies, which depicts the heroes from the 2003 series trapped in Titans Tower, accompanied by the transmission, “We’re still here. We think we found a way back.”
