In both DC and Marvel Comics, younger superheroes have seen a surge in popularity, especially recently. With younger audiences getting into comic books, it makes sense to expand certain titles and create new characters to appeal to the newer generation of readers. However, both companies are no stranger to younger heroes. For example, DC’s Teen Titans has always appealed to a younger audience, offering fresh new takes on popular sidekicks while they were away from their mentors.

More recently, Marvel launched their own version of the Teen Titans through their team, The Champions. Though the series was recently canceled, the Champions are still some of Marvel’s biggest players, despite how young they are. Likewise, the sheer amount of power on the team has often led fans to debate a fight between them and the Teen Titans. To offer our own input into the debate, here is our list of considerations for Teen Titans vs The Champions.

10 Enemy Power Level: Teen Titans

Over the years, the Teen Titans have come to face an incredible number of threats. In fact, each of them has, either single handedly or as a group, gone up against the likes of some of DC’s worst villains. Together, the team has squared off against the likes of the Joker, Trigon and even Superboy Prime, typically emerging victorious.

Furthermore, the group has some villains who are specifically tied to them. Villains like Deathstroke, Dr. Light, Trigon, and Brother Blood are typically associated specifically to the young team of heroes. While the champions have certainly faced off against some incredibly powerful threats themselves, most of the team got their experience elsewhere, rather than as part of the group, giving the Teen Titans a bit of an edge.

9 Brains: Tie

Both Marvel and DC are home to some incredibly intelligent teenagers. Likewise, some of the smartest teens from both universes reside on either the Teen Titans, or the Champions. For the Teen Titans, characters like Tim Drake and Cyborg both possess a vast amount of knowledge and have contributed greatly to the team in terms of science.

Likewise, the Champions have Amadeus Cho and Viv Vision, both of whom are some of the smartest characters in the entire Marvel Universe. While both teams have had some other brainy characters on the roster, these characters are some of the more common brainiacs associated with each team. Looking at the likes of both of them, it is easy to see how the intelligence of these youngsters can balance out in the end.

8 Brawn: Teen Titans

Though the Champions definitely have some heavy hitters on their team, the Teen Titans typically pack a much more powerful punch. With characters like Superboy, Wonder Girl, Beast Boy, Cyborg, and Raven all on the team, the Teen Titans have an incredible amount of firepower on their side.

Sure, the Champions have a Hulk of their own, Ms. Marvel, Nova, and Viv, but none of them can really measure up to the sheer force that the Teen Titans are capable of. Since the Teen Titans have incredibly similar abilities to the ones of their mentors, it is easy to see how they would have a slightly bigger advantage over the Champions in this regard.

7 Allies: Teen Titans

The Teen Titans certainly cooperate with other DC characters and teams far more often than the Champions do. While the Champions typically have a wide array of public support on their side, their relations with other Marvel heroes are typically strained. Furthermore, with a roster as large as the Teen Titans’ it definitely gives them an edge when backup is needed.

The Teen Titans can go beyond the likes of the Justice League alone and reign in support from Atlantis, Themyscira, and many more places. Likewise, with the Justice League being much more powerful than the Avengers, calling for backup is sure to give the teen titans a significant boost.

6 Experience: Teen Titans

Though it may seem a little unfair, the teen Titans have been around for a significantly greater amount of time than the Champions have. However, this additional time has still provided the team with incredibly valuable experience in the world of heroism, experience that the Champions are learning to discover themselves.

No matter the roster for the Teen Titans, the young heroes are almost always more experienced than the likes of the Champions. Though it could be argued that the Champion’s lack of experience makes them more compelling characters, it doesn’t help them in combat in any way, making the Teen Titans the victors once again.

5 Mentors: Teen Titans

To build off of the experience category, most of the teen titans were trained by some of DC’s greatest heroes. Every Robin that has served on the team has gotten some grueling physical and mental training from Batman. Furthermore, Superboy, both Wonder girls, and both Aqualad’s have all received some form of guidance from their respective Justice Leaguers.

While the Champions have done well alongside and even as members of the Avengers, they still lack a bit of experience, which is partially what drove a wedge between the two teams to begin with. Though they may not always see eye to eye with their more experienced mentors, the Teen Titans still have an incredibly valuable advantage that the Champions don’t.

4 Independence: Champions

While the backing from a mentor can have its advantages, being a bit more independent can be beneficial as well. With the Teen Titans being so closely tied to other superteams in DC, they often find themselves taking orders and doing the simpler jobs. This is certainly not the case for the Champions. In an attempt to go back to a much more classic way of crime fighting, the Champions are simply there to stop any wrongdoing they come across.

Though the team has encountered a lot of morally grey areas on their journey together, that experience has only helped each of them mature into a more heroic character. Unfortunately for the Teen Titans, they almost always feel as though they are in their mentor’s shadow. The Champions, however, are definitely more of their own group of heroes.

3 Personality: Champions

As mentioned previously, the Champions operate in a much different manner from other Marvel superteams. Because of this, the characters’ personalities all distinguish them from the hero who came before them. Because of their more independent approach, the team feels much more innocent, though naive, in comparison to the Teen Titans.

That’s not to say that the Titans don’t have any distinguishing personalities of their own, but they do tend to mimic a lot of the same tones and ideals as their mentors. While personality doesn’t exactly give anyone an edge in combat, the innocence of the Champions still has a lot to offer them in terms of character development, giving the group more advantages than they may realize.

2 Equipment: Teen Titans

Without a doubt, the Teen Titans utilize far more equipment than the Champions do. Both teams actually rely on a lot of technology, with both teams having high-tech bases and unique equipment of their own. However, the Titans have a lot more equipment that is unique to their specific members.

For example, Wonder Girl has her lasso, Robin has his own gadgets, Cyborg is his equipment, Aqualad has his water holsters, and so on. Though the Champions still have a lot of their own unique technology, it just doesn’t measure up to the same scale as the Teen Titans’. Hence, the Titans emerge victorious once again.

1 Winner: Teen Titans

In the end, the Teen Titans are simply just far more powerful and experienced than the Champions. Though the Champions would certainly put up a big fight, the training, resources, and backup available to the Teen Titans would just give them an even greater advantage. Perhaps, with time, the Champions will make a comeback and be able to develop their roster and resources even further. For now though, the Teen Titans are the definitive victors between the two teams.
