The mastermind behind the Ted franchise, director and voice actor Seth MacFarlane, revealed that the upcoming prequel series will be just as dirty as the films.

In an interview with Collider, MacFarlane explained that fans of Ted can expect much of the same type of humor from the new series. "Tonally, we're sticking pretty close to the first movie," he said. "I think people who've enjoyed the first movie and enjoyed that tone are going to be pretty happy with what we're doing here."

The first Ted movie was released in 2012, and remains, a decade later, the highest-grossing R-rated comedy of all time. The film follows the friendship between teddy bear Ted (MacFarlane) and adult man John (Mark Wahlberg) as they navigate the latter's relationship with Lori (Mila Kunis), who is convinced that Ted is a bad influence. Sequel Ted 2 would arrive in 2015.

MacFarlane provided a little more information on the overall structure of the upcoming Ted TV show, explaining that, "It's a prequel that takes place in 1993 and embraces that era, embraces the nineties and tracks what is essentially Ted's adolescence, I guess. Ted and John's adolescence. And, growing up in a Boston suburb. Look, as somebody who grew up in that part of the country, it's a fun thing to try and recreate."

Rumored to have 10 episodes in the first season, the show will have MacFarlane on board as an executive producer and writer. Also on the writing team are Modern Family's Paul Corrigan and Brad Walsh. The series is being developed by MacFarlane's production studio, Fuzzy Door. Series regulars will include Giorgia Whigham (The Punisher), Max Burkholder (The Purge), Alanna Ubach (Girlfriends' Guide to Divorce) and Scott Grimes (American Dad!).

The Ted prequel series was ordered by Peacock, and the studio has high hopes for the spinoff. NBCUniversal Entertainment Content chairman Susan Rovner said, "Seth has a superpower of creating fandoms and Ted is a shining example of his ability to create beloved characters that we can't get enough of. We are so lucky to bring this project to Peacock viewers who will have an opportunity to see their favorite foul-mouthed teddy bear once again."

The Ted prequel series does not yet have an official release date.
