Despite the popularity of the Apple TV+ series Ted Lasso, Warner Bros. Television Chairperson Channing Dungey doubts the hit comedy-drama focused on the soccer world will kick off any spinoffs.

Dungey addressed the possibility of Ted Lasso spawning other shows while speaking to Deadline. Though the show and its titular character are "memorable" to so many, Dungey doesn't want spinoffs to be made just because. "When you think of Ted Lasso, you obviously think of that unforgettable character. When you think of Night Court, you think of John Laroquette, and when you think of The Big Bang Theory, you think of Sheldon. Young Sheldon is a perfect example of being able to create a spinoff of a universe that actually does work because you have a character at the center and a different way of looking at that universe than what was there before. But I do think that when you're doing a spinoff for a spinoff's sake, that’s usually where you fall into some problems," she said.

While future spinoffs are unlikely at this stage, Ted Lasso fans at least have Season 3 of the series to look forward to after confirmation from Apple TV+ via a promotional photo inside the West Ham United locker room. While no specific date has been set for its release, Ted Lasso fans can expect a Season 3 premiere this spring. Season 3 has been a long time coming after multiple production delays caused by several rewrites and complications caused by Russia's invasion of Ukraine.

The Popularity of Ted Lasso

Ted Lasso chronicles the eponymous college football coach (played by Jason Sudeikis) who unexpectedly gets called to become the manager of a fictional English Premier League (EPL) soccer club, AFC Richmond, despite having no soccer coaching experience. Though team owner Rebecca Welton (Hannah Waddingham) only hired Ted as a way to show up her ex-husband and the club's former owner, Rupert Mannion (Anthony Head). However, Ted's charm, personality and ability to pick up aspects of the game eventually endear him to Rebecca as AFC Richmond makes significant progress. At the end of Season 2, Ted guides the club to promotion but loses his main assistant, Nate Shelley (Nick Mohammed), to West Ham, who Rupert owns.
