Just like its predecessor, The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom is packed with interesting side quests to complete, optional areas to explore, and mysterious characters to meet. The Legend of Zelda franchise has always been known for its bizarre and mysterious characters, and Tears of the Kingdom is no different, especially when it comes to Malanya, the god of horses. Malanya was first introduced in Breath of the Wild as a method of reviving the player's deceased horses. The horse god now returns in Tears of the Kingdom with the ability to not only revive horses but also upgrade their stats. What's more, Malanya often delivers messages to Link where he hints where Link can find the best horses in Hyrule.

By discovering and lodging at Tears of the Kingdom's stables, or registering horses with them, players can earn Pony Points, which essentially function as a reward system for using the stables' services. After earning seven Pony Points, players are allowed to sleep in the stables' more expensive Malanya beds -- special beds that provide Link with extra stamina and health once he wakes up. These beds not only boost Link's stats, but Malanya will also deliver mystical messages to Link in his sleep.

How to Earn Pony Points in Tears of the Kingdom (& What They Get You)
Pony Points are a new mechanic introduced in Tears of the Kingdom -- here's how to earn them and what you'll get by spending them.

While players don't need to find Malanya to get his most important mystical messages, they do need to find him if they want to revive their horses at some point, as well as improve their stats. Players will find Malanya in Bloodleaf Lake in North Akkala (4295, 3211, 0151). Malanya will be pretty recognizable, as he will be inside a flower bud in a spring similar to those of the fairies in both Breath of the Wild and Tears of the Kingdom.

Malanya will only get out of his bud if Link gives him an Endura Carrot, so players should make sure they are carrying this item while looking for Malanya. Endura Carrots will also be needed if players need to revive one of their horses. Endura Carrots can be found on Satori Mountain, East Necluda, and Hyrule Ridge. Players will also receive three Endura Carrots as a reward when they reach 50 Pony Points. What's more, with one Endura Carrot, Link can harvest the vegetable in Uma's Garden, so he always has a supply to revive horses. Once players get Malanya out of the spring, he will also deliver messages about recipes that he wants the players to bring so he can improve the horses' stats.

Tears of the Kingdom Uses Your Breath of the Wild Save Data in a Heartwarming Way
Tears of the Kingdom has a unique and heartwarming feature that allows players to use some content from their Breath of the Wild save file.

Much like Breath of the Wild, Tears of the Kingdom offers a great variety of horses. What's more, players can access their horses from Breath of the Wild, which is an amazing feature that allows players to collect all the horses from both games. The only downside is that players can only register up to 10 horses in the stables. In the early stages of Tears of the Kingdom, players probably will try to catch a wild horse out of the many surrounding open areas in Hyrule. Regularly, horses with spots will have poorer stats than solid horses, but they're also easier to catch.

However, as the game advances, players will discover there are many unique horses in Tears of the Kingdom. In this game, players will be able to find and register in the stable two types of giant horses, which are pretty useful in battle. Stalhorses are often found among enemies, but they're friendly and useful to combat gloom. But players can't register them to the stable. Additionally, there's one side-quest revolving around Princess Zelda's horse. Unlike Tears of the Kingdom, this horse is completely golden. This majestic horse also has amazing stats, which makes it one of the best horses in the game. Still, the biggest surprise horse in Tears of the Kingdom is Epona, Link's old companion. This horse is not only a great reference to older Zelda games, but it's also the most balanced horse stats-wise. This makes Epona the best option for daily adventures.

Every Mystical Message In Tears of the Kingdom and Where They Lead

Link meeting the colorful Malanya in Tears of the Kingdom

There are eight mystical messages Malanya will give players that are worth investigating, most of which lead to some of the game's best horses, but Malanya also helps players to find Dondons, the new interesting creatures in Tears of the Kingdom. It's worth noting that you do not need to have Malanya beds unlocked to begin making these discoveries. Also, you can sleep in Malanya beds as many times as you like to continue to receive these messages.

Once Malanya has been discovered, he will begin delivering messages about meals that are required to upgrade your horses. Those messages are almost unnecessary though, because you can make note of which meals you need when visiting Malanya. So, here are Malanya's most notable messages, along with the coordinates of each location he describes and any additional details that may help make your journey a bit easier.

Directions and Additional Details

"I am Malanya...the god of horses...who grants quicker hooves...and thicker hides. In northeast Hyrule...near a stable in Akkala...I am waiting."

4294, 3210, 0151

Begin at East Akkala Stable (4235, 2740, 0126) and move far north to find Malanya in a Great Fairy bud. Malanya can revive and upgrade horses in exchange for specific meals.

"In Hyrule Ridge...atop Thundra Plateau...there sits a dragon tree. There, many excellent steeds...roam wild and free."

-2514, 1272, 0161

These horses roam the highlands northwest of Thundra Plateau (-2270, 0904, 0109). Tabantha Bridge Stable (-2919, 0546, 0169) is the nearest stable to register them.

"On the border separating Necluda's east from its west...there is a place called Bubinga Forest. There, many excellent steeds...roam wild and free."

1971, -2193, 0016

The horses roam the fields on the forest's southwestern edge. The darker horses typically have the best stats, but you'll need close to two full stamina wheels to soothe them. Dueling Peaks Stable (1749, -1921, 0010) is the nearest stable to register them.

"In Faron Grasslands...there is a place called Zokassa Ridge. There, many excellent steeds...roam wild and free."

-0645, -3239, 0124

Several groups of horses roam the highlands far west of Highland Stable (0520, -3443, 0047). Once again, the darker horses usually have better stats. Bring them to Highland Stable to register them.

"Once a century...a golden horse is born. You may find it in the northwest...by going to Snowfield Stable."

-1820, 3370, 0238

This horse is part of the "Zelda's Golden Horse" side-quest that you can pick up from Penn at Snowfield Stable (-1643, 2567, 0234) once you've become a reporter for the Lucky Clover Gazette (-3252, 1769, 0119). You can't register the golden horse until you bring it to Harlow at Snowfield Stable to complete the quest.

"In the south...within the region of Faron...find the Lake of the Horse God. There, a huge horse...white in color...has left its mark."

0801, -3719, 0080

The giant white horse is wandering around a circular area in the canyons of Ibara Butte. You'll need a little over two full stamina wheels to soothe it. Take it to Highland Stable (0520, -3443, 0047) to register it. This horse may be slow, but it has unlimited stamina, making it one of the best horses in the game.

"At night, it appears...The Stalhorse...running atop the gloom. You may see it in the field...at the base of Satori Mountain."

-1676, -0700, 0125

The Stalhorse can only be found at night and is usually on the west side of the Sanidin Park Ruins (-1642, -0684, 0138), on the hills below it. Unlike every other horse in the game, it cannot be registered at a stable. However, it should be brought to Toffa at Outskirt Stable (-1437, -1265, 0032) to progress the side-quest "The Horse Guard's Request." Be aware that at sunrise, the Stalhorse will disappear.

"In southeast Faron...at Lakeside Stable...the Dondons graze. These ancient creatures, the ancestors of horses...can make precious gems...out of stones."

1539, -3356, 0058

The Dondons can be found near Cima, north across the ravine from Lakeside Stable (1553, -3525, 0061). Place Luminous Stones on the ground and let the Dondons eat them. Leave for a while and return later to find the creatures have turned them into random gems.
