Tim Drake faces evil, gun-toting copies his fellow Robins in his solo series.

Written by Meghan Fitzmartin and illustrated by Riley Rossmo, a preview for Tim Drake: Robin #3 shows Tim under attack from duplicates of Dick Grayson, Jason Todd, Stephanie Brown and Damian Wayne, but not as their respective Nightwing, Red Hood, Batgirl and Robin identities. Instead, all the copies appear as the four did when they were Batman's Robins, except for them wielding guns and knives while trying to kill Tim. The fight causes Tim to hold back against the foes that look like friends, while also thinking on their weaknesses that can be exploited.

  • Did someone say goldfish? After a mysterious murder takes place in broad library, Tim, Detective Williams, and Darcy are led to three suspects…except they aren’t real? Meanwhile, Tim’s been so busy on this case, he’s forgotten the case of the boyfriend. Where’s Bernard?

The fake Robins were sent after Tim by an unknown villain in the prior issue, a villain who seems to be behind Tim's latest case. Someone has been creating intangible animals based on detective stories, as well as committing murders near the marina that Tim has recently made his adopted home. The apparent killer has left clues for Tim to follow at each turn, while surveilling him with a drone from a distance.

This is not the first time that Tim has been at odds with an evil Robin in the last year either. While evil Robins have existed previously, the fan-voted Robins miniseries written by Tim Seeley and drawn by Baldemar Rivas sent Dick, Jason, Stephanie, Damian and Tim up against Jenny Wren, who believed herself to be Batman's first Robin and held a grudge against both the hero and his sidekicks. Releasing after it won the first DC Round Robin competition, the canon status of Robins and where exactly it may fit in the DC timeline remains unclear.

What to Read Before Tim Drake: Robin

As for Tim Drake: Robin, the series takes place after Tim's coming out story in Batman: Urban Legends, DC Pride: Tim Drake Special #1 and the Dark Crisis: Young Justice miniseries, all of which are written by Fitzmartin. Tim Drake now has a boyfriend named Bernard, and the two have been dating for six months as of the first issue of Tim Drake: Robin. Along with dating Bernard and living in a marina, Tim's solo series also has him working with We Are Robin's Darcy Thomas aka Sparrow and developing a new Robin suit, one that hasn't been seen yet as of writing.

Along with Fitzmartin and Rossmo, Tim Drake: Robin #3 is colored by Lee Loughridge and lettered by Tom Napolitano. Main cover art for the issue is by Rossmo, with variant cover artwork contributed to by Dan Mora, David Talaski, Rian Gonzales and Todd Nauck. The issue is now on sale from DC Comics.
