Although the Avatar is considered the most powerful bender globally, they wouldn't be able to get anywhere without their group of friends, and teachers have known simply as Team Avatar. From what fans have seen so far, Kuruk, Kyoshi, Aang, and Korra had their own version of Team Avatar, who has been by their side when they needed them the most.

While each member of Aang's Team Avatar are well-rounded characters in their own right and each has their own goals and aspirations outside of saving the world from the Fire Lord, they sometimes suffer from inconsistencies that are naturally a part of the writing process, particularly when multiple writers are being used. Here are 10 inconsistencies fans noticed about Team Avatar.

10 Sokka's Confidence

ATLA Sokka Space Sword

In the early episodes of The Last Airbender, Sokka was quickly growing into a wise leader and strong non-bender in combat, which was a major part of his character growth throughout the series.

In Book Three, however, a meteorite strike causes a fire that he cannot do anything about, and he sits moping by the sidelines while the benders all take care of the problem. Aside from it not being in his nature to stand aside while others do the work, he was uncharacteristically easy to give up on doing anything to help the benders, as this had never stopped him in the past from being a great asset to Aang.

9 Toph And Her Mother

Toph Beifong, Avatar the Last Airbender

Although Toph has some clear animosity against her father, largely due to him treating her as nothing more than a fragile little girl, she does hold some attachment to her mother.

In Book Two, this is used to bring her out into the open and results in her being kidnapped by Zin Fu and Master Yu, right before she discovers metal bending. However, this attachment to her mother is never seen again, and she seems to forget about her entirely except a few lines late in Book Three.

8 The Team's Treatment Of Appa

As Aang's spirit animal, there's a lot to love about Appa. As Appa and Aang are the last living remnants of their culture, they have a great deal of affection for one another. Aang always treats him more as a family member than the pet that everyone else sees him as, including the rest of Team Avatar.

On multiple occasions, Aang has to remind the group that Appa isn't just a beast of burden and is an intelligent creature with his own feelings and emotions. Still, the other members of Team Avatar keep going through cycles of forgetting and remembering this fact.

7 Sokka's Head And Chi Blocking

Ty Lee Avatar

During one of Team Avatar's many encounters with Azula's group, Ty Lee and Sokka fight one-on-one. He blocks one of her chi blocking techniques with his head, and nothing happens.

This is played off for laughs, but it should have had some serious consequences for Sokka, as this is one of the key chakra points that is required to be manipulated for energy bending. Although Ty Lee seldom strikes someone in the head, this one instance should have done some serious damage to Sokka in the long run.

6 Momo's Reaction To Danger

Momo Avatar

Although Momo is a particularly mischievous lemur who tends to get into trouble more often than not, he's not so reckless that he won't react to danger when the need calls for it. Momo has fled Team Avatar in the past when he has felt like his life was in danger, including against Fire Nation soldiers.

Still, when Aang faces down Fire Lord Ozai, he hangs around Aang fairly comfortably Ozai is burning down the Earth Kingdom.

5 Katara And The Spirit Water

Avatar The Last Airbender _ Katara Heals Aang

After her training with Master Paku, Katara is given a vial of spirit water as a parting gift with immense healing powers. While she eventually has to use this on a mortally wounded Aang after Azula's lightning shots him, she had the opportunity to use it much earlier for Jet.

After breaking free from his mind control, Jet attacks Long Feng but is wounded in the process, with both Smellerbee and Longshot acknowledging his impending death, but this would have been a good chance to use the spirit water to heal Jet a potentially keep a strong non-bender on their side of the war.

4 Aang's Necklace

Katara Zuko Betrothal Necklace

During The Waterbending Scroll, Katara's gran-gran's necklace is stolen by Zuko to track down Team Avatar in subsequent episodes. To make up for the one she lost, Aang weaves her a necklace made from flowers and Sokka's fishing line, which she is very thankful for at the time, though she forgets about it entirely once her original necklace returns.

Considering this was a turning point in Aang and Katara's relationship, with it being the beginning of Aang realizing he might have stronger romantic feelings for her, it's not in line with Katara's character to forget about this gesture entirely.

3 Katara's Feelings Towards Aang

Katara and Aang's actress and actor in the recap play in Avatar: The Last Airbender.

Throughout the first two seasons, Katara's feelings towards Aang go back and forth constantly, with The Cave of Two Lovers indicating she may have some reciprocating feelings for him, while other episodes show her seeing him as just a little brother figure.

She would eventually figure out her emotions at the beginning of Book Three, where she clearly has romantic feelings for Aang, but they seemed to come out of nowhere compared to how she had acted towards him in the past.

2 Aang's Tattoos

ATLA Air Glider Aang

A big hurdle for Team Avatar is traveling the world to find bending masters for Aang while hiding from Fire Nation authorities or any other nation's people who align themselves with the Fire Nation.

Despite being the only Airbender left in the world, with his tattoos being a clear give away of his identity, Aang never tries very hard to hide them, and very few people recognize him right away just from his tattoos. Even when Team Avatar hides in the Fire Nation in Book Three, Aang doesn't hide his tattoo's all that well despite having a full head of hair to cover the one on his head.

1 Aang's Pacifism

Fire Lord Ozai Avatar

One of Aang's biggest challenges in Book Three is the revelation that he may have to kill Ozai in their battle to ensure the Fire Nation is stopped for good. For Aang, he claims that this goes against all of his prior teachings as he was taught to be a pacifist by the Air Nomads, but Monk Gyatso seems to have not been taught the same thing.

In The Southern Air Temple, Aang's guardian is seen surrounded by the dead bodies of dozens of Fire Nation soldiers, clearly implying that he killed all of them by himself, having cast aside his pacifist nature to protect his people in their time of need.
