With the "Magic Mike XXL" press tour underway, leading man Channing Tatum now has the chance to talk about his upcoming superhero debut a lot -- and he's taking that chance. While talking with Digital Spy, Tatum talked at length about "Gambit" and how he's preparing for the role.

"It's all being worked on at the moment," said Tatum when asked about the film's progress. He then talked specifically about the character's Cajun accent, saying, "I'm from the south, so I know who to go to to find the accent. I haven't found 'the guy' yet, because generally that's how I do accents. I'll find the person I want to sound like and not just do a generic Cajun accent. So I haven't found the guy yet."

He added in that he's keeping Gambit's signature weapon -- playing cards -- close by. "Cards are always -- they're right there, actually," said Tatum, nodding off camera.

Digital Spy then asked the question that's at the forefront of every diehard Gambit fan's mind: will Gambit wear his classic pink and/or purple suit?

"That's kind of the fun part, to massage it," said Tatum with a smile. "You can't just, like, do it how people think. You want to give it some base of reality. If you do do it, you got to make it sort of relative to the reality."

"Gambit" producer Reid Carolin, who's also worked with Tatum on both "Magic Mike" films, also talked about how the Cajun's solo film will fit into Fox's wider X-Men film universe. "It's an evolving conversation and we're figuring that out as we go," said Carolin. "This is a standalone movie and it's the story of Gambit and we'll probably gradually integrate that character into the X-Men universe as we go. As far as what characters from the X-Men universe make it into the movie -- we're not exactly sure yet, so we're figuring it out. It's still at the script stage... It's his story in New Orleans."

You can watch the whole interview below. "Gambit" opens on October 7, 2016.
