Task Force Z expands on the origin of Lazarus Resin in a new issue.

A preview for Task Force Z #6, written by Matthew Rosenberg with art by Eddy Barrows, flashes back to months before the series kicked off, taking place in the laboratory where Lazarus Resin was experimented with. There, a scientist named Walter praises that the lab's workers have managed to convert the Resin into a digestible pill. Among those workers are Task Force Z member Mr. Bloom and the Resurrection Man.

The Resurrection Man aka Mitch Shelley was created by Dan Abnett, Andy Lanning and and Jackson Guice in 1997, first appearing in Resurrection Man #1. The preview not only reveals that Shelley had a direct hand in creating the Lazarus Resin pills that Task Force Z's zombies consume to live, but also that the squad's twin scientists -- Amelia and Delia -- are Shelley's daughters. Task Force Z #4 revealed that these two daughters are not twins, but at least triplets.

However, this laboratory is not the sole source of Lazarus Resin, but a piece of its development into pill form. Robin #11 revealed that Lazarus Island and its massive Lazarus Pit is the true source, and that the League of Lazarus has been shipping the reviving substance out into the world. Now though, readers know that Shelley, his daughters and Mr. Bloom are responsible for the pills that have been circulating titles like Task Force Z and Suicide Squad.

The preview also expands on Mr. Bloom's track record of looking out for number one. The villain was the primary antagonist for Jim Gordon while he was Batman, but he has only just returned in the last year since his time in the New 52 Batman run. He had been held captive since then, with the preview showing his explosive escape.
