Writer Alan Davis and artist Paul Renaud will team for a new Marvel comic that brings together Earth's Mightiest Heroes and the publisher's premiere Non-Team.

Tarot #1 unites the Avengers and Defenders when Namor the Sub-Mariner searches for his former Invaders partner Captain America. A long-lost memory from Namor's days in World War II is the catalyst for the story, but both the Avengers and Defenders are drawn into the conflict.

According to the synopsis, the antagonist for the comic is Infernal Ichor of Ish’lzog, who is bringing along the promise of "a labyrinth of pain, destruction and madness."

The cover to Tarot #1 is split down the middle, with the Avengers on the left and Defenders on the right. Captain America and Hulk represent both groups in the middle, though Hulk can call himself a founding member of both super teams. Joining Captain America on the Avengers are Scarlet Witch, Iron Man, Thor and Vision. For the Defenders, we have Hulk, Valkyrie, Namor the Sub-Mariner, Doctor Strange and Silver Surfer.

The symmetry of the characters may allude to how they will be pitted against one another, since most team-ups have to begin with the heroes fighting each other before coming together to stop the bad guy.

Tarot #1 by Alan Davis and Paul Renaud goes on sale in January 2020.
