'Tangled' Musical Sails Onto Disney Cruises

Rapunzel is about to set out on her own adventure on the high seas.

Disney announced a musical is in the works based on "Tangled," featuring songs from the 2010 animated film in addition to new creations from Alan Menken and Glenn Slater. The production will debut in November aboard the Disney Cruise Line flagship Disney Magic.

A retelling of the Rapunzel folktale, "Tangled" grossed more than $591 million worldwide. In the story, Rapunzel is a kidnapped princess trapped by an evil witch who uses the magical properties in the girl's hair to achieve immortality. When her curiosity gets the best of her, however, Rapunzel leaves her tower with the roguish Flynn Ryder and inadvertently discovers the truth about her past.

Disney has also mounted stage adaptations of such animated films as "The Lion King," "Tarzan," "Beauty and the Beast," "The Little Mermaid" and "Aladdin."
