Lionsgate may have found its own Game of Thrones in Tamora Pierce’s Tortall Universe book series.

Deadline reports Lionsgate has teamed with Playground Entertainment to adapt the Tortall Universe for television. The search for showrunners is currently underway, with Colin Callender, Scott Huff and David A. Stern attached to executive produce.

The Tortall Universe launched in 1983 with Alanna: The First Adventure, which saw the eponymous Alanna of Trebond trade places with her twin brother and disguise herself as a boy in order to train as a knight. Since then, the Tortall Universe has expanded into over 20 novels and short stories, including the The Song of the Lioness, The Immortals and The Protector of the Small series. Tortall itself is the name of a country set within this fictional world, which is rife with magic and danger.

“Not only am I over the moon that the Tortall books will be adapted by Playground, but I know my fans will be ecstatic,” Pierce said in a statement.

“Tamora has proven time and again that she is an unparalleled world-builder. The breadth of the source material in her Tortall series is staggering and we’re thrilled to be partnering with her to bring these incredible stories to life,” added Callender, who will produce through Playground.

Lionsgate, of course, is home to the film adaptations of Susanne Colllins' Hunger Games trilogy. This is Playground's first foray into television, though the company is no stranger to YA, having produced J.K. Rowling's Harry Potter and the Cursed Child play. Together, they aim to turn the Tortall Universe into their tentpole franchise.

The as-yet untitled Tortall Universe television series does not yet have a release date.
