Since its launch in 2008, the Marvel Cinematic Universe has expanded to include characters of all different types. Some are human, some are superhuman, some are aliens and some are gods. The world is filled with heroes of such diverse origins that the cast of a film like "Captain America: Civil War" is inherently different from the cast of a film like "Thor: Ragnarok." In a recent question and answer session, "Thor: Ragnarok" director Taika Waititi spoke to those differences, which hit him while he was filming the third Tor film.

“Sometimes I would stop and think, 'I’m doing a movie that’s got Thor and Doctor Strange and The Incredible Hulk and Loki and every character is so strange and different,'” said Waititi, as reported by the AV Club. “'Civil War' it’s just humans, humans with human problems. Ours is creatures and beings and all these sorts of really different characters. Again displaying human problems, but in outer space or in other worlds.”

The AV Club's report of Waititi's appearance at a Rooftop Films gala thrown in his honor in New York City also includes the directors comments on how this Marvel film will be similar to his previous smaller, indie fare. “I think the overall sense that I’m trying to give to the audience and what I want the audience to leave the cinema carrying with them is a sense of joy really,” said Waititi of how the "Thor" film compares to "What We Do In The Shadows" and "Hunt For The Wilderpeople."

Like in his previous films, Waititi will also have a cameo in "Thor: Ragnarok." "It’s not like a thing that I’ve ever planned, but now I’m in all of my movies in a small role or a larger role,” said Waititi. “I’ll probably just keep doing that. It’s like a dumb thing I do now.”

Waititi also commented on Sam Neill's addition to the "Thor" cast. “He blabbed on the internet, didn’t he?” Waititi said. “I don’t want to say too much about it, because it’s a really cool little thing that he’s doing.” Waititi and Neil previously collaborated on "Hunt for the Wilderpeople."

Directed by Taika Waititi and starring Chris Hemsworth, Tom Hiddleston, Idris Elba, Anthony Hopkins, Cate Blanchett, Tessa Thompson, Jeff Goldblum, Karl Urban and Mark Ruffalo, “Thor: Ragnarok” is set to be released on November 3, 2017.
