MGM signs on with Tomb Raider Crystal Dynamics and GK Films for a new film based on the recently released Tomb Raider game featuring Lara Croft's origin.
Tomb Raider creators at Crystal Dynamics took cues from Batman Begins, Casino Royale and 127 Hours for the new game, which will serve as the basis for a movie franchise reboot.
GK Films and Johnny Depp's Infinitum Nihil will develop an adaptation of The Vault, the new Image Comics miniseries by Sam Sarkar and Garrie Gastonny.
Mark Fergus and Hawk Ostby, who also worked on Children of Men and the upcoming Cowboys & Aliens, want to create an "origin story for Lara Croft that solidifies her place alongside Ellen Ripley and Sarah Connor in the pantheon of great female action heroes."
Heavyweight producer Graham King (The Departed, The Town) plans to reboot the Tomb Raider franchise with a movie centering on the origins of the popular archaeologist-adventurer.
