Summary
Fritz the Cat is an indie black comedy film based on the comic series by Robert Crumb. Based on the adult stories surrounding college dropout Fritz the Cat (Skip Hinnant), Fritz comments on the topics of the late 1960s, such as the war and racial relations during the era. After Fritz finds himself on the outs of a party and failed attempts at catching the attention of some women, he begins a wild night that leads him to a socio-political awakening, believing he needs to be the one to start a revolution. Fritz the Cat was the first film to ever earn an "X" rating from the MPAA for its portrayal of drug use, sexuality, profanity, and political topics. The film was initially released in 1972 and enjoyed large critical and financial success despite (and possibly due to) its controversial subject matter.
