Summary
Crimes of the Future is a body horror sci-fi film written and directed by David Cronenberg, his first time returning to the genre since 1999. Saul Tenser (Viggo Mortensen) and Caprice (Lea Seydoux) are performance artists who perform strange and captivating surgeries before live audiences in a future where biotechnology has advanced so much that computers can now directly interact and control human bodies. Human evolution itself has changed as well, as Tenser is affected by a condition that forces his body to create new organs constantly, which need to be removed. Their performances catch the eye of those in charge of the National Organ Registry, keeping track of recent evolutionary changes in humans partnered with a government-funded police force to use Tenser to infiltrate a radical group of those who want evolution to continue unmonitored and unrestricted. Crimes of the Future is not a remake of the 1970 film, also written by Cronenberg. The film initially premiered at the Cannes Film Festival in 2022 and will air on Hulu on October 31 2022.
