Taco Bell, the purveyor of far from authentic but still weirdly delicious Mexican-inspired fast food, has released a series of commercials that recall elements of Evangelion, Pacific RimMobile Suit Gundam, and everyone's favorite 24-episode slow motion train wreck, Darling in the Franxx.

The surprisingly well animated commercials tell an entire story arc focused around the Fry Force, a team of brightly colored mecha and their pilots, who defend the Earth from a race of kaiju who have come to the planet to steal our supply of nacho fries. The commercials' protagonist, Rei, swears revenge on the kaiju after they abduct her brother, Kosuke, during a battle. In a shocking twist, Kosuke returns later on in the commercial, but is now working for the kaiju and aids them in their goal of seizing all of the Mexican spices and nacho cheese dipping sauces on the planet. Faced with an impossible decision, Rei must choose between saving her brother or saving the nacho fries.

The commercials features voice work from Steve Blum, best known for portraying the character of Spike Spiegel in the English dub of Cowboy Bebop, and what appears to be a small cameo appearance by the virtual YouTuber Gawr Gura. The animated shorts were produced by Taco Bell's Live Más Productions, which is apparently a thing that actually exists.

If Taco Bell's epic story wasn't enough to satisfy your hunger for mecha action, Mobile Suit Gundam's Sunrise studio recently unveiled their latest sci-fi mecha series, Kyokai Senki, which features mecha designs that were supervised by the designer of the Enzo Ferrari. If you're craving more fast food infused anime, Sunrise also recently released the movie Mobile Suit Gundam: Hathaway, which also features a scene set at fellow fast food chain Jollibee. Hathaway is currently available for streaming on Netflix. Taco Bell will also be the perfect comfort food to pick your spirits up after watching Evangelion 3.0+1.01: Thrice Upon A Time, which will make its highly anticipated international debut on Amazon Prime Video this August.
