"Yes, for sure," Stallone said. "I think James has been very generous... He and I are pretty tight. So if there's an opportunity... I love him, he's great."

Created by Tom Grummett and Karl Kesel, Nanaue/King Shark made his DC debut in the pages of Superboy #0 (October 1994). He was first adapted to live action on CW's The Flash, voiced by David Hayter, and will soon appear in the video game Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice Leaguei, voiced by AEW wrestler Samoa Joe. Co-creator Kesel was surprised by Stallone's casting as King Shark. "Never in my wildest dreams when I put the name King Shark on a piece of paper did I think that someday Sylvester Stallone would be saying a half-dozen words as King Shark [in a movie]," Kesel said.

James Gunn and Sylvester Stallone Work Well Together

Stallone first collaborated with Gunn when he was cast as Ravager leader Stakar Ogord in 2017's Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2. After working so well together, Gunn brought Stallone into The Suicide Squad to voice King Shark with Gunn's longtime friend Steve Agee providing the motion capture work on set. When The Suicide Squad opened in theaters in 2021, its number-one spot at the box office made Stallone one of the few actors to have a number-one movie open in every decade since his first success with Rocky in 1976.

It remains to be seen when King Shark will appear again in the DCU as Gunn presently has his hands full. With his new role at DC Studios, Gunn, along with co-CEO Peter Safran, will be weighing the DCU's future and will be open to what the fans ask for. "As the new (& first ever) CEOs of DC Studios, Peter [Safran] & I think it's important we acknowledge you, the fans, & let you know we hear your different desires for the pathways forward for DC," Gunn said on Twitter.

Stallone can be seen in another superhero movie, Samaritan, now streaming on Prime Video. Tulsa King will premiere on Paramount+ on Nov. 13.
