The Syfy network today announced that it has ordered an adaptation of Dark Horse’s Resident Alien to pilot. The series will be produced by Universal Cable Productions and executive produced by Chris Sheridan (Family Guy).

Created by Peter Hogan and Steve Parkhouse, Resident Alien is a darky satirical tale that follows an alien who crash-lands on Earth. The alien adopts on the identity of Harry Vanderspeigle, an elderly doctor who dies in a car crash. Using his psychic powers, Harry the alien is able to make everyone see him as human.

When Harry uses his assumed identity to retire to a remote cabin, he does so with the goal staying as far away from humans as possible. However, he is pulled out of his retirement when the doctor in a nearby down is murdered, forcing Harry to adopt the role as town doctor and, perhaps, solve the murder. A government agency is also hunting Harry while all of this is happening.

Resident Alien joins a growing number of series inspired by comic books on Syfy, such as Krypton, Deadly Class and Happy! The network’s sci-fi horror space epic Nightflyers is also slated to begin airing this year, while its former prestige sci-fi space opera, The Expanse, was recently picked up for a Season 4 renewal by Amazon Studios.
