After two seasons, Syfy has canceled Alphas, the drama created by X-Men: The Last Stand screenwriter Zak Penn and Michael Karnow.

Debuting in July 2011, the series followed a team of ordinary citizens with extraordinary abilities that investigates unusual cases the CIA, FBI and Pentagon have been unable, or unwilling, to solve. News of the cancellation arrives less than three months after Alphas' Season 2 finale drew just 1 million viewers -- less than half the 2.5 million who tuned in for the series premiere.

"We’ve been proud to present this entertaining, high-quality series for two seasons and to work with an incredible ensemble of talented actors, producers and creatives as well as our partners at BermanBraun Television," Syfy said in a statement to The Hollywood Reporter. "We’d like to thank the show’s dedicated regular viewers for their tremendous support."
