Syfy has debuted the first trailer for The Expanse, its upcoming 10-episode sci-fi mystery drama based on the bestselling novels by Daniel Abraham and Ty Franck. It's set to air sometime this year.

Set 200 years in the future, the series follows detective Miller (Thomas Jane, Hung, The Punisher), Chrisjen Avasarala (Shohreh Aghdashloo, The House of Sand and Fog, 24) and Holden (Steven Strait, Magic City, City Island) as they become embroiled in what Syfy calls "the greatest conspiracy in human history."

The Expanse finds Miller and Holden, an officer on an ice-carrying freighter, racing across the solar system after a missing heiress, while Avasarala -- a political family legacy -- climbs the ranks of Earth's governing body. Dominique Tipper (Vampire Academy), Cas Anvar (Olympus), Wes Chatham (The Hunger Games: Mockingjay) and Florence Falvre (Alpha House, The Following) also appear.

Iron Man screenwriters Mark Fergus and Hawk Ostby penned the pilot and serve as executive producers.
