Syfy Conjures Second Season of 'The Magicians'

Syfy has ordered a 13-episode second season of its fantasy drama "The Magicians," expected to air in 20o17. The series' fourth episode aired Monday.

Based on the bestselling novels by Lev Grossman, "The Magicians" stars Jason Ralph as Quentin Coldwater, abrilliant grad student chosen to attend Brakebills College for Magical Pedagogy, a secret upstate New York university specializing in magic. There, he and his classmates soon discover the magical fantasy world they read about as children is all too real when they unwittingly invite a malevolent entity from the other side into their world.

The renewal comes a little more than a month after the cable channel ordered a second season of its new sci-fi drama "The Expanse."

Airing Mondays at 9 p.m. ET/PT on Syfy, "The Magicians" also stars Stella Maeve), Olivia Taylor Dudley, Hale Appleman, Arjun Gupta, Summer Bishil, Rick Worthy and Jade Tailor.
