Syfy has canceled the science fiction thriller "Helix" after two seasons.

Executive produced by Ronald D. Moore ("Battlestar Galactica") and Steven Maeda ("Lost"), the series starred Billy Campbell and Kyra Zagorsky as divorced scientists sent as part of a team from the Centers for Disease Control to the Arctic to investigate the outbreak a mysterious virus.

The Hollywood Reporter notes that "Helix" ended its second season this month with a series-low 440,000 total viewers, down from a high of 1.8 million in its freshman outing.

On the bright side, the website suggests "The Magicians," the adaptation of Lev Grossman's bestselling fantasy novels, may be nearing a series order.
