Syfy has announced a six-hour miniseries based on the Robert Charles Wilson's acclaimed 2005 novel Spin. Jim Uhls (Fight Club, Jumper) will adapt.

The Hugo Award-winning Spin, the first novel in a sci-fi trilogy, chronicles one scientist's attempt to prevent the end of the world following the arrival of an impenetrable black cloud that swallows the Earth and blacks out the sky.

If the Syfy miniseries follows in line with the novel, then elements of time travel, alien intervention and terraforming could also come into play.

Spin will be produced by Universal Cable Productions as well as Rob Morrow's Bits and Pieces Picture Company and Leslie Urdang of Olympus Pictures.

The announcement feels in line with Syfy's desire to return to its sci-fi roots, with projects like 51st State, Dark Matter and Ascension.
