Sword Art Online: Progressive takes place during the events of the first Sword Art Online series. It follows Asuna as she travels through Aincrad, eventually meeting her partner and future lover Kirito. Progressive was also published a decade after the original Sword Art Online web novel.

The Sword Art Online light novels have given birth to a massively popular franchise, including several anime and manga adaptations. A live-action adaptation is currently being developed for Netflix by Skydance Productions, with Altered Carbon's Laeta Kalogridis as showrunner.

Sword Art Online: Progressive is eyeing a release date of Nov. 6, 2022.
