A teaser trailer has dropped for the new original anime series, Lycoris Recoil, which will be the directorial debut for Shingo Adachi, who is best known for his work as the character designer for several titles in the Sword Art Online franchise. The trailer, which was posted on the distributor Aniplex's American Twitter account, gives viewers a first look at Lycoris Recoil's main characters, Chisato Nishikigi and Takina Inoue, and asks the question, "Wouldn't it be more exciting together?" Currently, there is little information about the anime's story or setting, but the voice actors for the two leads have been revealed: Chika Anzai (Pretty Boy Detective Club, The Night Behind the Tricornered Window) is playing Chisato and Shion Wakayama (Police in a Pod, Dr. Stone) plays Takina.RELATED: Girls’ Frontline Showcases Its Cast in Action-Packed Trailer

A few other members of the creative team have been revealed as well. Adachi is joined by Imigimuru (This Art Club Has a Problem!), who is designing the characters, and Asaura (Phantom in the Twilight), who is penning the original story. A-1 Pictures, the critically acclaimed studio behind Darling in the Franxx, Your Lie in April and several entries in the Sword Art Online and The Seven Deadly Sins franchises, is producing Lycoris Recoil.

A-1 Pictures has several other upcoming projects beyond just Adachi's new series. The studio is also producing a third season of Kaguya-sama: Love is War?, titled Kaguya-sama: Love is War -Ultra Romantic-, which is set to debut in April 2022. The studio also recently wrapped up another original series, the supernatural Visual Prison, which is available for streaming through Funimation.

Moreover, Sword Art Online Progressive: Scherzo of a Dark Dusk, A-1 Pictures' sequel film to Sword Art Online Progressive: Aria of a Starless Night, is scheduled to premiere next year. Based on the light novels by Reki Kawahara and abec, these movies are an expanded retelling of the story's "Aincrad" arc. Aria of a Starless Night introduced Mito/Misumi Tozawa to the franchise and earned over a million dollars during its opening weekend at the US box office. Adachi did not work on Aria of a Starless Night and it is unclear if he is a part of Scherzo of a Dark Dusk's creative team.

Lycoris Recoil is expected to be released sometime in 2022.
