Netflix has revealed the first full-length trailer for Sweet Tooth, its upcoming television adaptation of writer/artist Jeff Lemire's beloved DC/Vertigo Comics series of the same name.
Starring Christian Convery as Gus and Nonso Anozie as Tommy Jepperd, Sweet Tooth is set to premiere its eight-episode first season on Friday, June 4. Netflix describes the series as a "post-apocalyptic fairytale about a hybrid deer-boy and a wandering loner who embark on an extraordinary adventure." The show's first trailer arrives shortly after the release of its first poster.
In addition to the trailer, Netflix has revealed several new still images from Sweet Tooth, featuring Gus and Tommy, as well as several other characters viewers can expect to meet throughout their journey.
Created, written and illustrated by Lemire, Sweet Tooth was first published by DC Comics under its Vertigo imprint in September of 2009. The post-apocalyptic comic follows Gus, a 9-year-old human/deer hybrid who was raised by his religious father in a nature preserve in Nebraska. After Gus' father dies of an unknown illness, he embarks on an adventure with Tommy Jepperd, a hot-headed ex-hockey player.
Sweet Tooth originally ran for 40 issues, concluding in January of 2013. Lemire eventually returned to write and draw a sequel series titled Sweet Tooth: The Return, which was published under the DC Black Label and ran for six issues from November of 2020 to April of this year. Netflix's TV adaptation is directed by Jim Mickle, who serves as co-showrunner alongside Beth Schwartz. Mickle and Schwartz both serve as writers and executive producers on Sweet Tooth, with other executive producers including Susan Downey, Robert Downey Jr., Amanda Burrell and Linda Moran.
Sweet Tooth stars Christian Convery, Nonso Anozie, Adeel Akhtar, Aliza Vellani, Stefania LaVie Owen, Dania Ramirez and Neil Sandilands, with Will Forte and James Brolin. The series premieres June 4 on Netflix.
