UPDATE: Netflix has officially announced Sweet Tooth's Season 2 renewal in a press release. This article has been updated to reflect additional information.

Netflix sneakily announced Sweet Tooth has been renewed for a second season via marketing materials sent out to the press.

The packaging contains a flyer that instructs the recipient not to unwrap until July 29. Some people that received the gift have begun to share the news of the Season 2 renewal along with photos on social media. Including in the photos are a massive chocolate bar with "Sweet Tooth Season 2" engraved on it, along with a letter that reads, "To a very special fan of a very special boy. You're amongst the very first to hear the sweet news. Sweet Tooth has been renewed for Season 2! If it's July 29 or after, help us get the word out by posting with #SweetToothSeason2"

“It’s been equally thrilling and heartwarming to experience how people around the world have been falling in love with our deer-boy," Executive Producer, Writer, Director and Season 2 Showrunner Jim Mickle said in a statement. "We couldn’t be more excited to continue our collaboration with Netflix and keep following Gus and his friends on their extraordinary journey.”

Team Downey’s Susan Downey, Robert Downey Jr., and Amanda Burrell; and Linda Moran will return as Executive Producers. Team Downey's Evan Moore returns as Producer. Oanh Ly (Chilling Adventures of Sabrina) will join as a co-executive producer for Season 2.

Adapted from the DC comic by Jeff Lemire, Sweet Tooth follows Gus, a young hybrid boy who is part-human and part-deer. After living in seclusion for 10 years, Gus meets a man named Jepperd, with the two exploring what's left of their dystopian world after "The Great Crumble," which sparked the emergence of hybrids.

Sweet Tooth was the most-watched Netflix series for the second quarter of 2021, falling just shy of The Queen's Gambit. The first season of Sweet Tooth was viewed by 60 million Netflix accounts, with The Queen's Gambit totaling 62 million in 2020.

Season 1 of Sweet Tooth is now streaming on Netflix.
