Sweet Tooth creator Jeff Lemire announced his next comic series, Mazebook, will drop this fall.

Being published by Dark Horse, the five-book Mazebook series will explore the concepts of grief and family through the eyes of a lonely building inspector who is still grieving the loss of his daughter.

News about the upcoming release of Mazebook comes just days after the second chapter of Lemire and Jock's 10-part Snow Angels limited series debuted on June 22. That science fiction series is set in a brutal near-future where the world is covered in ice.

Lemire's celebrated Sweet Tooth comic series was also recently adapted for television, with Season 1 currently streaming on Netflix. The Netflix series is set in a post-apocalyptic world following a cataclysmic event known as The Great Crumble, which resulted in the birth of human-animal hybrids.

While Sweet Tooth has been praised by critics and fans alike, the first episode fell short of being the most-watched premiere among second quarter 2021 streaming shows. That honor went to the series premiere of Loki on Disney+, which opened with 10.5% shares of streaming and engagement. Those numbers easily surpassed the 4.2% of shares for Netflix's Sweet Tooth and 2.9% of shares for Netflix's Shadow and Bone, which both debuted in the same quarter.

The official synopsis for Mazebook reads,

A lonely building inspector still grieving the loss of his puzzle-loving daughter receives a mysterious phone call one night from a girl claiming to be her, trapped in the middle of a labyrinth. Convinced that his child is contacting him from beyond this world, he uses an unfinished maze from one of her journals and a map of the city to trace an intricate path through a different plane of reality, and embarks on an intense and melancholic adventure to bring his daughter back home.

Created by Jeff Lemire, Mazebook #1 is available for pre-order now and will be in comic shops on Sept. 8, 2021.

Sweet Tooth stars Christian Convery, Nonso Anozie, Adeel Akhtar, Aliza Vellani, Stefania LaVie Owen, Dania Ramirez and Neil Sandilands, with Will Forte and James Brolin. Season 1 is now available on Netflix.
