WARNING: The following contains major spoilers for Season 1 of Sweet Tooth, now streaming on Netflix.

Netflix's Sweet Tooth brings together a vast array of characters in its first season as young Gus (Christian Convery), aka the deer-boy, tries to get to Colorado to discover more about his origin and family. He's hellbent on finding his mom, Birdie, after the stories and info his dad/Pubba left him. But, sadly, the season ends on a bittersweet note as he's split up from his crew with a new war brewing. With that in mind, let's dissect some of the biggest questions we've got after seeing Gus' world shattered once more.

What Happened to Jepperd's Family?

Season 1 keeps it close to the chest, but it's eventually revealed that Jepp's wife made a hybrid baby in the hospital at the start of the disease's spread. However, he didn't want to raise such a kid, concerned with the stigma and the rising pandemic and almost fled. Luckily, love triumphed, and he didn't abandon ship. However, by the time he got back to the maternity ward, they were gone. We're not sure if his family died or if they were taken. Season 2 will have to reveal if Abbot and the Last Men or other scientists took them to dissect for a possible cure.

Who Left Wendy For Aimee?

Early on, Aimee decides to leave city life behind in Colorado and hold up at the Essex County Zoo. There, she forms the Preserve, taking in hybrids. However, it all begins with someone leaving baby Wendy (aka Pigtail) on her doorstep. They apparently knew a woman was hiding out there, so fans are eager to find out who this mysterious person is.

Bear confirmed in the finale that Wendy is her half-sister, but she thinks the girl is dead after the Last Men took the baby away. It seems like they want to experiment on her as the parents died from the Sick. Fans are speculating the culprit could be Johnny, who showed sympathy for Trixie the horse and seems to be kind to the Singhs and imprisoned hybrids.

How Will Jepp and Aimee Save the Hybrids?

Aimee does a decent job of using the underground tunnels and fireworks to stave off Abbot's army, but she'll need a lot more firepower. Given their numbers, she'll need soldiers, too, considering the enemy has tanks, guns and a whole military at their disposal.

They will be resolute, though. Jepp wants Gus back and Aimee needs her kids. Still, the plan moving forward is never defined in Season 1 of Sweet Tooth. She has access to a radio in her second base at her old office but other than spying, she'll need an arsenal to finish the smash-and-grab job.

How Far Will Aditya Go?

Aditya was reluctant to follow Dr. Bell and experiment on hybrids to find a cure. Now, he has no choice because Rani's dying and Abbot's holding them hostage. He already started killing the kids on the operating table. As he waits to see what's special about Gus, we're questioning if he'll truly go to the lengths Bell did. He's already starting to break, which Johnny realizes. It's why Abbot is keeping a close watch. He doesn't trust the doctor. A lot of it will depend on his wife growing a conscience too because she encouraged him to go this far.

What's Abbot's Backstory?

We know he's a conniving, merciless leader as he killed Bell for running away. He needs the cure since he wants to decide which humans live and die in his new world. As such, fans want to know how he became this tyrant. He hates hybrids, so one has to wonder if the virus claimed the lives of loved ones. He does seem to have a deeper story other than obtaining power. Still, Aditya might be able to prise the truth out as they work closely to get the cure.

What's With the Purple Flowers?

Purple flowers have been popping up wherever the Sick is, so it seems to be a warning sign. We'd like to know why these flowers, though, as the microbes are from Alaska and have nothing to do with greenery. In various cultures, purple is linked to wisdom, knowledge, spirituality, imagination, healing and wellness, so they may even be part of the cure. Metaphorically, they do seem to represent the rebirth the world is going through as nature changes mankind with these hybrids.

Why Did Birdie Create the Hybrids?

Gus' Mother in Sweet Tooth

Birdie's backstory revealed she lost her husband to HPS, so she used the microbes to generate vaccines and cures to heal humanity with other diseases. Yet she never confesses why animals were crossed with humans. It's an odd choice, so some explanation is required to know if Gus being made in a lab gave rise to the virus, as well as the other hybrids who were then formed through natural procreation within the world.

Has the Sick Hit Outside America?

Sweet Tooth Baby Gus in the Lab

Sweet Tooth told the story of America being wracked by this plague, so fans are wondering if Europe, Asia and such got inflicted with it too. Foreign science teams could help find a cure, plus there might even be intervention to stop the Last Men. Abbot is running a dictatorship, after all. If other countries step in, they might be able to circumvent the chaos and make strides for scientists such as Birdie. It'd also paint an intriguing picture of how they handle the xenophobia we've seen in America.

Sweet Tooth stars Christian Convery, Nonso Anozie, Adeel Akhtar, Aliza Vellani, Stefania LaVie Owen, Dania Ramirez and Neil Sandilands, with Will Forte and James Brolin. Season 1 is now available on Netflix.
