Don't expect a crossover between DC's Universe's live-action Swamp Thing and the Titans or Doom Patrol anytime soon.

As DC Universe, DC Comics' premium streaming service, prepares to launch this fall, DC Chief Creative Officer and Co-Publisher Jim Lee has confirmed that the upcoming live-action Swamp Thing series will not tie into the platforms other original series, Titans or Doom Patrol.

"We have no mandate to tie everything together," explained Lee in an interview with CNet.

The upcoming series is expected to lean more heavily into its horror roots than the superhero fare of its fellow DC Universe counterparts. By not sharing continuity with other series, it will also free up the show's story creatively without taking other programs into consideration.

The move to separate Swamp Thing from other DC properties is not without precedent. While initially created by Len Wein and Bernie Wrightson as part of the DC Universe, the Swamp Thing comic book series eventually moved to the mature imprint Vertigo maintaining only tenuous ties to the DCU. The character was reintegrated into the larger DCU in 2011's Brightest Day #24 where he currently remains.

Swamp Thing is expected to begin principal photography in North Carolina this fall with Buffy the Vampire Slayer veteran Deran Sarafian directing the pilot. Free of ties to the rest of DC Universe, it will be interesting to see how different the upcoming series will be.

Executive produced by James Wan, Mark Verheiden, Gary Dauberman and Michael Clear, Swamp Thing will join Titans, Young Justice: Outsiders, Harley Quinn and Metropolis on the DC Universe service, which is expected to launch this fall. Swamp Thing will arrive on the service in 2019.
