Swamp Thing is the short lived 2019 series following the life of the titular hero, who's a planet-elemental connected to The Green. Throughout the show, he prevents atrocities with the help of Dr. Abby Arcane. The series lasted ten episodes before it was unexpectedly canceled, which lead to the social media campaign #SaveSwampThing. Now it's on the CW, home of the Arrowverse, where those who didn't have a subscription to DC Universe can now watch it, giving Swamp Thing Season 1 another chance to shine.

With 1.1 million viewers showing up to the pilot, this opportunity could prove that audiences are not ready to say goodbye to the Protector of the Green. The first season was supposed to have 13 episodes, but it was condensed to ten. This was due to a variety of unclear reasons; however, with the high ratings, Swamp Thing could attract the CW into picking the show up for another well deserved season.

This is the best time for the CW to pick up a second season with everything happening over in the Arrowverse. With Supergirl's cancelation and Arrow ending, there's room for more DC at CW. Batwoman has also picked up a new main star, so now is the time to continue changing up the Arrowverse roster. Furthermore, Legends of Tomorrow handles more wacky stories, while The Flash tackles drama as well family friendly narratives. Swamp Thing would be an interesting breath of fresh air, leaning more towards the serious and dark side of DC, unlike some of the other Arrowverse titles.

The introduction of Swamp Thing would also allow for easier crossover possibilities for John Constantine, a long time "friend" of the Protector of the Green. Either Constantine could help Swamp Thing face his villain-of-the-week, or Swamp Thing could make his way to Legends, especially since his specific level of dark and wild would fit well with the chaotic crew of the Waverider.

Swamp Thing has also been confirmed to be within the Arrowverse, with his world dictated as Earth-19. While the residents of Earth-Prime seem to believe the multiverse is gone, a multi-show crossover could help them realize it still exists. This could also start planting the seeds for Final Crisis, the comic follow up to Crisis on Infinite Earths.

The high ratings for the 90 minute pilot prove audiences need Swamp Thing to continue. If the ratings remain high for the next nine episodes of Season 1, it would be world changing for the CW to renew it for a second season, something the titular hero would be in support of.

Swamp Thing himself, Derek Mears, was even on the front lines of the #SaveSwampThing campaign, describing the cancelation as heartbreaking. In an interview with Screen Rant, Mears praised fans for how they respectfully moved forward with the movement. Mears also didn't expect there to be such universal love towards the series and was motivated by the quality of fans the show garnered.

Continuing Swamp Thing on the CW would immediately transfer all those Swamp Thing fans to the network while also attracting new fans from the Arrowverse. While DC Universe couldn't give viewers a proper send off, let alone a second season, the CW could deliver just this, giving Swamp Thing his due justice.

Swamp Thing stars Crystal Reed, Andy Bean, Derek Mears, Jennifer Beals, Henderson Wade, Will Patton, Virginia Madsen, Jeryl Prescott and Kevin Durand. The entire series is currently available to stream on the DC Universe service and airs Tuesdays at 8 pm ET/PT on The CW.
