Actor Matt Ryan, who has played paranormal anti-hero John Constantine since 2014, wants to be the one to play the character on DC Universe's Swamp Thing.

During a panel at WonderCon 2019 in Anaheim, Ryan -- who has played Constantine in the NBC series of the same name, Legends of Tomorrow, and various animated films -- had this to say: “John Constantine was born in Swamp Thing. Eventually, he has to be on Swamp Thing, and I just hope it’s me.”

Created by Alan Moore, Steve Bissette and John Totleben, Constantine first appeared in 1985's The Saga of the Swamp Thing #37 before getting his own series, Hellblazer. Ryan has become almost synonymous with the role of Constantine, but no DC Universe property has maintained casting from other series. Cyborg is a good example of a character who has appeared in multiple live-action properties and is played by different actors. Ray Fisher played Cyborg in Justice League, while Joivan Wade plays the character in Doom Patrol.

Still, he appeared in both Constantine, the canonicity of which is debated, and the Arrowverse, so anything is possible. However, there's no telling at this time who will play Constantine in the series if and when he's introduced.
