As the Infinite Frontier era has begun in earnest, the reborn DC Universe has seen a brand-new character assume the mantle of Swamp Thing and wield the elemental powers of the Green to further the agenda of the Parliament of Trees. Levi Kamei, a young Indian man with a tragic family history, eventually discovered he was connected to one of the most formidable superhero roles in the DCU, with horrifying results.

And as Levi learned more about his new status quo and superhero responsibilities after a sojourn deep inside the Green in The Swamp Thing #4, he has been targeted by one the DCU's most lethal teams: The Suicide Squad.

Since Levi became the new Swamp Thing, the assets of the Sunderland Corporation were acquired by a new conglomerate known as Prescot Industries. As Sunderland had been long obsessed with harnessing the powers of Swamp Thing and the Green by any means necessary, the company's CEO, Mr. Pilgrim, gained Sunderland's research on Alec Holland and Swamp Thing. And as news became public after Levi used his powers as Swamp Thing to stop the villainous Pale Wanderer in the Sonoran Desert, Prescot opened a case file on Levi Kamei and began reaching out to their contacts high up in the federal government, with Pilgrim personally reaching out to Amanda Waller from her usual base of operations at Belle Reve.

Waller has certainly been busy since the start of the Infinite Frontier era herself, forming a new iteration of Task Force X while receiving presidential approval to extend the Suicide Squad's mission across the DC Multiverse. With Peacemaker as her new field commander, Waller enlisted the usual ensemble of hardened convicts while also coercing Superboy to join her team. And beyond targeting criminals on deadly black ops sequences, Waller also has no moral qualms tasking the Suicide Squad with infiltrating known superhero organizations to bolster her ranks, including a clandestine mission inside Teen Titans Academy to gain more unwilling recruits for her expanded mission directive.

Levi's activities as Swamp Thing have not just been noticed by the Suicide Squad and Prescot Industries; they've also earned the attention of the DC superhero community. Just as Prescot intensified their investigation into Swamp Thing after news reports broke from the Sonoran Desert, Batman similarly was intrigued by the arrival of a new champion of the Green, observing the same reports from the Batcave. While the Dark Knight has remained absent as Levi has continued his adventures as Swamp Thing, it's only a matter of time before Batman resurfaces, potentially as the Suicide Squad becomes involved with the hunt for the new elemental superhero.

Amanda Waller has steadily been building a mightier Suicide Squad as she expands her ambitious mission across different universes. While Prescot Industries has its own designs on the Green, a Swamp Thing would be an invaluable addition to Task Force X. Brought into the hunt based on an old favor between Waller and Mr. Pilgrim, the Suicide Squad and its team of super-powered criminals may prove to be an even bigger challenge for Levi to mantle of Swamp Thing rather than the Pale Wanderer. But while Swamp Thing is now on the Suicide Squad's radar, Levi may receive some timely assistance from Batman should the conflict escalate, effectively welcoming him as the new Swamp Thing in the finest DC tradition.
