The first photos from the set of the upcoming DC Universe series Swamp Thing have surfaced online.The photos feature series leads Crystal Reed and Andy Bean (who play Abby Arcane and and Alec Holland, respectively) as they take a boat ride into a bayou, a voyage that is likely to end poorly for Bean's character. The photos were taken at Greenfield Lake in Wilmington, North Carolina and were originally be released by Star-News Online, the town's local news outlet.RELATED: Swamp Thing TV Pilot Kicks Off Production

According to Star-News, a group of 18 boats full of cast and crew members descended upon the lake to film the afternoon scenes featuring Reed and Bean's characters. After sunset, they began filming the night sequences, which involved a boat explosion. Fans of the DC comics are likely familiar with such an explosion being the moment Alec Holland met his demise, which birthed the elemental anti-hero known as the Swamp Thing.

The explosion scene required a government-approved closure traffic, in order to make sure oncoming motorists were not distracted or otherwise caught off-guard by the pyrotechnics. A video of the explosion was captured and uploaded to YouTube by Star-News.

Executive produced by James Wan, Mark Verheiden, Gary Dauberman, Michael Clear and Len Wiseman, Swamp Thing will premiere sometime in 2019 on the DC Universe. The supernatural horror series stars Crystal Reed, Andy Bean, Derek Mears, Jennifer Beals, Henderson Wade, Will Patton, Virginia Madsen, Jeryl Prescott, Henderson Wade and Kevin Durand.
