While Swamp Thing won't officially premiere until the end of the week, critics have already started giving the DC Universe streaming series their collective stamp of approval.

On the review aggregator Rotten Tomatoes, the series currently sits at 92% positive reviews with 12 reviews reporting as of this writing. Across the board, the reviews praise the show's spooky atmosphere, production values and creature effects that are even more impressive considering the show's budget.

If Swamp Thing's warm critical reception holds, it will mark the fourth DC Universe original series to achieve some level of critical acclaim.

The first seasons of Titans and Doom Patrol were both 'Certified Fresh' by the site with 74% and 95% positive reviews, respectively. The animated series Young Justice: Outsiders, a continuation of the fan-favorite Young Justice cartoon, also received 94% positive reviews.

Inspired by the classic Len Wein and Bernie Wrightson monster, Swamp Thing follows Crystal Reed's Abby Arcane and Andy Bean's Alec Holland as they investigate a virus spreading bizarre vegetation around a swamp in Louisiana. Like his comic book counterpart, Holland soon finds himself transformed into the show's titular creature, played by Derek Mears.

Premiering Friday, May 31, on DC Universe, Swamp Thing stars Crystal Reed, Andy Bean, Derek Mears, Jennifer Beals, Henderson Wade, Will Patton, Virginia Madsen, Jeryl Prescott, Henderson Wade and Kevin Durand. The series is executive produced by James Wan, Mark Verheiden, Gary Dauberman, Michael Clear and Len Wiseman.
